Chapter 5 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the courtyard of the Armand estate was alive with the sound of laughter and the gentle rustle of spring leaves.

Abigail sat in a comfortable wicker chair, a cup of warm tea in her hand, watching the sunlight play across the grass. On her lap, wrapped in a soft white blanket, was her four-month-old daughter, Evelyn. The baby had Rowan’s dark hair and Abigail’s bright, observant eyes.

Rowan walked out of the house, carrying a tray of fresh fruit. He had stepped down as the active CEO of the holding company, opting instead for a quiet advisory role that kept him home where he belonged. The vanguard merger had gone through on their terms, under a restructured, completely transparent board.

He sat beside her, kissing the top of Abigail’s head before gently touching Evelyn’s tiny hand.

“The court finalized the asset forfeiture this morning,” Rowan said quietly. “Celeste’s share of the trust has been completely liquidated and transferred into a secure educational and medical foundation in Evelyn’s name. Celeste has been moved to a federal penitentiary in upstate New York. She has no right to appeal.”

Abigail looked down at her daughter, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over her. The marks on her arm had long since faded, replaced by the warm, healing reality of the life they had built together.

“It’s finally over,” Abigail whispered.

“It’s just beginning,” Rowan corrected gently, pulling them both close.

The estate was no longer a cage. It was finally a home.
