Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Checkmate

The dining room of Le Rêve had grown deathly quiet. Every nearby diner was pretending to look at their menus, but everyone’s ears were straining to catch every word unfolding at Table 4.

Dominic Pierce looked as though he had aged ten years in the span of five minutes. The untouchable tech titan, the ruthless corporate predator who loved nothing more than firing employees for sport, sat trapped in a corner of his own making, utterly dismantled by a woman he had dismissed as a peasant.

“We are done here,” Victor said coldly, standing up from the booth and smoothing the lapels of his tailored suit. He didn't even look at Dominic. Instead, he looked directly at Cassidy, reached into his jacket pocket, and pulled out a heavy, gold-engraved business card, sliding it neatly across the table beside the water goblet.

“If you ever tire of carrying plates, young lady, my private office in Geneva is always looking for chief linguistic strategists who actually understand international markets,” Victor said with a respectful nod. “Name your salary. We will double it.”

“Thank you, sir. I am quite content with my current position for now,” Cassidy replied with a polite, professional smile.

Natalia stood up as well, dropping a thick, velvet-bound black card onto the table—the kind of black card reserved for ultra-high-net-worth individuals that carried a tip amount that could single-handedly wipe out months of debt.

“Keep the change, Captain,” Natalia whispered with a knowing wink, using the military-grade title deliberately.

Without another word, Victor and Natalia turned their backs on Dominic Pierce, walking out of Le Rêve’s grand dining room with the effortless, unbothered stride of true, untouchable power.

Dominic sat alone at the massive table. His face was a mask of sheer humiliation and blinding rage. He looked up at Cassidy, his lips trembling as he tried to muster some final shred of authority.

“You... you haven't heard the last of this,” Dominic hissed weakly, his voice cracking. “I will make sure you never work in this city again! I’ll buy this restaurant and fire you myself!”

Before Cassidy could reply, General Manager Simon materialized beside the table, moving with surprising speed. Simon’s face was carved from solid stone, and his eyes burned with a cold, corporate fury.

“Mr. Pierce,” Simon said, his voice dangerously polite. “Le Rêve reserves the right to refuse service to patrons who verbally harass our staff. Furthermore, word travels fast in Manhattan. By the time you reach the lobby, your stock analysts will have already informed you that your bridging loan has been officially canceled. I suggest you leave quietly before I have security escort you out.”

Dominic opened his mouth to protest, but the utter hopelessness of his situation finally crashed down upon him. He grabbed his designer jacket, shoved his chair back so hard it screeched against the hardwood floor, and practically sprinted toward the private elevators, desperate to escape the scene of his absolute destruction.

A collective wave of quiet applause rippled softly through the surrounding tables as Dominic vanished down the corridor.

Simon turned to Cassidy, looking at her with a mixture of sheer awe and profound apology. “Cassidy... I am so sorry. I had no idea—”

“It’s quite all right, Simon,” Cassidy interrupted smoothly, picking up the silver tray with a calm, serene smile. “Just another routine translation job.”

She picked up the black card Natalia had left behind, looked at the staggering tip amount—more than enough to clear the remainder of her father’s medical debt in one single stroke—and slipped it safely into her apron pocket.

She smoothed her black uniform, raised her head high, and walked back out into the dining room. Money could buy penthouses, private jets, and tables at the most exclusive restaurants in Manhattan, but it could never buy character, and it could never protect an arrogant fool from underestimating the quiet woman standing directly in front of him.
