Chapter 3 - The Tables Turn Instantly

The courtroom erupted into instant, chaotic murmurs.
Judge Carter slammed his gavel down multiple times, his face flushing crimson with a mix of shock and judicial indignation. “Order! Order in this courtroom! Mrs. Sterling, you cannot simply walk in here and make explosive claims without—!”
“Without documentation, Your Honor?” Victoria interrupted smoothly, not dropping an ounce of her formidable poise. She gestured to one of the attorneys trailing behind her.
The man instantly stepped forward, flipping open a thick, leather-bound portfolio and placing certified documents directly onto the judge’s bench.
“DNA verification results from an independent accredited laboratory matching Clara’s genetic profile to my late son, completed twenty-four hours ago,” Victoria recited calmly, her eyes never leaving the bench. “Alongside sealed adoption agency records from twenty-five years ago that were intentionally corrupted and hidden by a corrupt local magistrate—an official who is currently being federalized as we speak. Furthermore, a complete restraining and asset-freeze injunction signed this morning by the State Supreme Court Chief Justice.”
Judge Carter pulled the papers toward him, his eyes scanning the official seals, the notary stamps, and the undeniable genetic cross-references. With every second that ticked by, his expression grew paler. As a veteran family court judge, he knew the Sterling name carried more legal weight than a dozen local city halls combined.
Across the room, Julian looked like he was having a medical emergency. He grabbed the edge of the table, his knees buckling slightly.
“No... that’s impossible,” Julian muttered loudly, shaking his head in sheer disbelief. He pointed a shaking finger at me. “She’s a nobody! A foster kid with no family! She told me herself she came from the system! This is a conspiracy! They fabricated these documents!”
Victoria slowly turned her head, fixing Julian with a gaze so intensely cold it could have frozen molten steel.
“Conspiracy, Mr. Sterling?” Victoria stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. “You built your entire real estate portfolio using seed loans provided by a subsidiary shell company owned entirely by the Sterling Trust. Did you genuinely believe that because I was traveling abroad, my corporate auditors weren't reviewing every single penny flowing through your accounts?”
Julian swallowed hard, his throat dry. “My... my loans are fully secured—”
“Your loans were conditional upon maintaining impeccable moral and financial standing,” Victoria corrected him sharply, her voice ringing with absolute finality. “A condition that included clauses explicitly prohibiting marital fraud, asset concealment, and malicious abandonment of a Sterling heir. As of precisely twelve minutes ago, our legal syndicate has officially called in your entire five-million-dollar commercial debt—payable immediately, in full.”
The color vanished entirely from Julian’s face. He let out a breathless gasp. “Five million? You can’t do that! The maturity date isn’t for another three years!”
“I own the bank that holds the note, Julian,” Victoria replied sweetly, a chilling, humorless smile touching her lips. “I can call it whenever I choose. And right now, I choose right this second.”
Judge Carter cleared his throat nervously, looking down from his high perch. He hastily picked up his stamp, pressing it forcefully onto the documents Victoria had provided.

“In light of... newly presented, undeniable evidence regarding familial lineage and emergency asset protection injunctions,” Judge Carter announced hurriedly, clearly eager to distance himself from the unfolding catastrophe, “today’s prior settlement ruling is hereby vacated and set aside. All marital assets previously claimed by the petitioner are placed under immediate federal receivership pending forensic audit.”
Julian sank heavily back into his chair, his head dropping into his hands as the reality of his total ruin finally crashed down upon him.
