Chapter 4 - The Billionaire’s Retribution

Within twenty-four hours, the digital landscape surrounding my life had transformed from a nightmare into a masterclass in corporate and legal annihilation.

Noah didn't drop me off at my cousin Sarah’s modest apartment in Oak Park. Instead, he insisted—with an insistence that brooked no argument—that Lily and I stay at his heavily secured private estate overlooking Lake Michigan. It was a sprawling, ultra-modern sanctuary of glass, steel, and quiet luxury, completely insulated from the prying eyes of the media. He immediately arranged for a private orthopedic specialist to examine his shoulder (which, as suspected, was a severe separation requiring a sturdy brace), while setting me up in a sunlit guest suite equipped with everything a fourteen-month-old could possibly need.

But Noah’s primary focus wasn't his injury. It was Ryan.

Seated across the sleek marble dining table the following morning, Noah’s lead legal counsel, a formidable woman named Victoria Vance (his aunt and the fiercest litigator in corporate law), laid out a thick binder containing a complete dossier on my ex-husband.

“Mr. Collins made a critical mistake,” Victoria stated crisply, flipping open the binder to reveal a stack of financial printouts and corporate filings. “Not only did he publicly defame you across multiple social media platforms with provably false allegations of infidelity and gold-digging, but in doing so, he severely violated the non-disparagement clauses of your recent divorce settlement—clauses we can easily motion to reopen.”

She slid a second document toward me. “Furthermore, our forensic accountants audited Mr. Collins's boutique construction firm over the weekend. It turns out that during your marriage, while he was claiming his business was failing and forcing you to drain your personal savings, Ryan was systematically funneling marital assets into offshore accounts and hidden corporate entities shared with his current girlfriend—the very woman he flaunted online.”

I stared at the papers, my jaw slightly slack. “He... he was hiding money the entire time?”

“Millions,” Noah said quietly, walking into the room with his right arm resting comfortably in a black medical sling. He pulled out the chair next to me and sat down, his gaze warm and steady. “He thought he could bleed you dry, toss you out, and then use a viral photo to publicly humiliate you when you finally found a shred of peace. He’s about to discover that actions have consequences.”

“What happens now?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Now,” Victoria smiled, a shark-like glint in her eyes, “we file an emergency injunction for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and financial fraud. We freeze every single one of his business assets, repossess his luxury car, and drag him into a courtroom where he won't just lose his ill-gotten gains—he’ll lose his company entirely.”

“And the social media posts?” I asked.

“Already handled,” Noah replied smoothly. “My PR firm issued a formal statement clarifying that we met by pure chance on a commercial flight, that I was protecting a mother and child from falling luggage, and that any defamatory statements made by third parties are currently being scrubbed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Ryan’s original post has already been flagged and removed for targeted harassment, and his employer has been quietly notified of his corporate fraud.”

True to his word, the retaliation was swift and absolute.

By Tuesday afternoon, Ryan’s world had completely imploded. According to frantic voicemails left on my silenced phone, his bank accounts had been legally frozen by court order. His business partners, facing sudden audits and association with his fraudulent financial dealings, had locked him out of the office. Even his new girlfriend had reportedly packed her bags and blocked his number the moment she realized his assets were locked down and he was facing potential criminal charges for financial fraud.

Ryan went from gloating on social media about "living the life he deserved" to desperately scrambling for a lawyer he couldn't afford, realizing too late that the quiet, broken woman he had discarded had just accidentally partnered with one of the most powerful men in the country.
