Chapter 5 - The Empire I Built and the Final Verdict

Six months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over downtown Seattle, casting warm, golden rays across the glass-and-steel facade of our corporate headquarters.

The legal battles had been swift, brutal, and entirely decisive.

Because of the forged mortgage documents and the automatic activation of Section 14 in Margaret Collins’s will, the probate court ruled completely in my favor. The seven point three million dollar inheritance was stripped from Scott’s mismanaged hands and placed into a secure family trust—with me named as the sole executive trustee.

Furthermore, the historic family home, the primary residence Scott had tried to leverage into ruin, was awarded to me outright as part of the primary divorce settlement, alongside a hefty chunk of his remaining corporate assets to cover legal damages and fraud restitution.

As for Scott?

The high-flying, champagne-popping heir was currently facing federal felony charges for financial forgery, drowning in massive personal debts he couldn't pay, and living in a cheap rental apartment after Kayla—realizing the money train had completely derailed and her wealthy savior was legally bankrupt—packed her bags and left him stranded just three weeks before their scheduled wedding.

Karma, as it turned out, was not just a concept. It was an executive-level accountant with a very sharp pencil.

I stood on the expansive private balcony of my newly renovated penthouse loft—the very same building where attorney Jerome Carter’s office was located, looking out over the glittering expanse of Elliot Bay. The wind caught my hair, warm and sweet with the promise of a new season.

My phone buzzed softly in the pocket of my tailored designer blazer.

It was a notification from my executive team at Kessler North, confirming that my promotion to Senior Vice President of Global Logistics operations had just been officially approved by the board of directors.

I smiled, unlocked the screen, and cleared the notification with a single swipe.

I didn't look back at the past, and I certainly didn't waste another second thinking about the man who thought he could erase me with a two-hour deadline. I had built my own empire, brick by brick, resilience by resilience, and no amount of inherited wealth or cowardly betrayal could ever take that away from me.

The game was over. And I was the one holding the keys to the entire kingdom.
