Chapter 5 - The Blueprint for a New Life

Three months later, the private maternity ward of a premier Manhattan hospital was surrounded by six unmarked black sedans and a dozen heavily armed men in sharp suits standing watch in the corridors. But inside Room 412, the atmosphere was entirely devoid of shadows.

Adrian Moretti sat in a comfortable armchair beside the hospital bed, cradling a tiny, warm bundle wrapped in a soft white blanket against his chest. His posture was careful, tender, and entirely transformed.

In the bed beside him, Vivian rested against the pillows, looking pale but radiant, watching her husband trace the tiny fingernails of their newborn son with absolute wonder.

"His name is Leo," Adrian murmured softly, refusing to take his eyes off the baby's face. "Leo Moretti. Though I was thinking... maybe he can choose his own path when he grows up. Engineering, architecture, whatever he wants. As long as he stays away from the ledger."

Vivian smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that reached her eyes and warmed the entire room. She reached out, her hand resting gently over Adrian’s wrist.

Downstairs in the parking garage, Victor Hale stood by his car, talking quietly on a secure satellite phone to a regional captain in Baltimore.

"Tell them the deal is off," Victor instructed coldly into the receiver. "Tell them Moretti Mercantile is officially out of the importation business for good. We’re focusing strictly on commercial real estate and urban development from now on."

He hung up the phone, pocketed it, and looked up at the sunlit hospital window on the fourth floor.

Upstairs, the most feared man in New York City leaned down, pressed a soft kiss to his infant son’s forehead, and then kissed his wife’s hand—not as a king demanding tribute, but as a man who had finally learned the true cost of building a home.
