PART 4 – He Has A Warrant

"For the past eight weeks," Evan said, "I've been in contact with a detective named Patrick Marsh. He has been investigating your father's death, Ms. Vale — following an anonymous tip from a hospital pharmacist who flagged an irregularity in Carlton's medication records four months after he died."

He looked at Danielle.

"Detective Marsh is outside. He's been waiting for me to call."

He picked up the phone.

"He has a warrant. Two of them."

Marcus moved.

He moved fast — the sudden animal speed of a man who had spent three years being careful, building a story about a confused old woman and a grieving husband, watching a fortune in estate assets shift quietly into reachable positions — and was now watching all of it collapse in a hospital room in fourteen minutes because a retired nurse had applied for a caregiving job.

He didn't make it to the door.

Detective Marsh had not been waiting in the corridor.

He had been waiting just outside the room.

One conversation remained. And Evan was not leaving until it was finished.
