Chapter 5 - Justice, Freedom, and a Fresh Beginning

Six months had passed since the night Daniel thought he had successfully gutted our safe and walked away with my world.
The federal trials had moved swiftly, fueled by the mountains of airtight forensic evidence I had systematically compiled. Marcus Vance was currently settling into a maximum-security federal penitentiary, facing a mandatory twenty-year sentence with no possibility of parole. His co-conspirators on the board had either resigned in disgrace or were quietly awaiting their own day in court.
And Daniel? Daniel was learning what it truly meant to have absolutely nothing. After being extradited back from the private airfield, his bail requests were repeatedly denied due to the severity of the multi-billion-dollar international fraud charges. He was sitting in a county holding cell, abandoned by Chloe—who had immediately flipped on him to secure a reduced sentence—and completely cut off from every single penny of the Calloway fortune. He had tried to write me letters begging for mercy, forgiveness, and financial assistance for his legal defense. I had instructed my divorce attorneys to forward every single one of them straight into the industrial shredder without even opening the envelopes.
I stood on the private wrap-around balcony of my penthouse suite, looking out over the glittering, sprawling skyline of Nashville as the afternoon sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of deep violet and gold. The air was warm, carrying the faint, sweet scent of blooming jasmine from the garden below.
My divorce papers had officially cleared that very morning, signed, sealed, and executed with mathematical perfection. My maiden name—and my mother's formidable legacy—was entirely my own again, unburdened by deceit, betrayal, or dead weight.
I took a slow sip of vintage champagne from a crystal flute, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace and absolute liberation wash over my soul. I wasn't the victim Daniel had whispered his smug little goodbye to in the dark of night. I was the architect, the auditor, and the queen of my own destiny.
My phone buzzed gently on the glass patio table beside me. I glanced down at the screen. It was an automated notification from my security detail confirming that my mother's antique diamond bracelet had been safely recovered, polished, and returned to its rightful place in my private vault.
I smiled, raising my champagne glass toward the fading sunset in a silent toast to myself.

Let this be a universal lesson to anyone foolish enough to underestimate a woman who knows how to read between the lines:
Never mistake a woman's patience for weakness. Because when she finally decides to close the ledger, the only thing you'll be left counting is your regrets.
