Dolores had been forced to downscale dramatically, moving into a cramped, dismal senior apartment complex on the industrial side of town where no one knew her name.

I was sitting behind the massive mahogany desk in the executive corner office on the fiftieth floor of Sterling Tower.
The sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating the sweeping skyline of the city below. My health was fully restored, my body strong, and my mind sharper than ever. I wasn't just the primary shareholder anymore; I had officially assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer, steering the family empire into a bold new era of integrity, strength, and ruthless accountability.
The intercom on my desk chimed softly.
“Ms. Sterling,” my executive assistant announced. “Your father is on line one, and the board is ready for the Q2 strategic review.”
“Put my father through, Sarah. Let the board wait two minutes,” I replied smoothly, a warm smile touching my lips.
I picked up the secure line. “Hey, Dad.”
“How’s the new office treating the true CEO?” my father asked, his voice warm with pride.
“Better than I ever imagined,” I said, looking out over the city. “The air up here is incredible. You can see everything so clearly when the dead weight is finally gone.”
