Chapter 4 - The Unmasking

The massive motorized projection screen behind the head table slowly descended from the ceiling. For a second, there was only a blinding white light, followed by the crisp, high-definition display of a surveillance still.

It was Terminal 3.

The image showed Derek and Clara locked in their passionate embrace beside the departure gates, their faces illuminated by the harsh overhead lights, with their matching designer luggage clearly visible in the foreground. A collective gasp rippled through the front tables. Several senior executives from Apex Logistics dropped their forks against their porcelain plates with sharp, echoing clatter.

Derek’s hand froze on the table. The confident color instantly drained from his face, leaving him the exact shade of wet chalk.

"As you can see," Nolan continued smoothly, his clicker advancing to the next slide, "our executive team at Apex Logistics places a high premium on honesty during out-of-town seminars. But Derek appears to have been operating in a completely different sector—specifically, international romance logistics alongside our esteemed wedding planner, Clara."

Slide after slide flashed across the screen. There were itemized bank transfers showing funds moving from my personal savings account straight into shell companies operated by Clara. There were text message screenshots detailing how they coordinated their alibis—Seattle and Portland—while laughing about how easy it was to keep me pacified with wedding chores. And finally, financial audits displaying the inflated vendor invoices, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that thousands of dollars had been systematically embezzled from my account under the guise of floral arrangements and catering deposits.

Clara let out a sharp, choked gasp. Her champagne glass slipped from her trembling fingers, shattering violently against the hardwood floor with a sound that cut through the dead silence of the ballroom.

"And just in case anyone in the audience believes these documents might be taken out of context," Nolan said, pressing play on a localized audio file, "let's listen to a brief recording captured from a shared cloud drive."

Clear as day, Derek’s relaxed voice echoed through the high-end sound system: “Don't worry about Emily finding out about the extra invoices; she’s too busy grading spelling tests to look at bank routing numbers. Just funnel the rest into the offshore account, and we’ll book our next trip to Cabo as soon as the wedding deposits clear.”

Clara’s voice followed immediately after, bubbling with laughter: “She’s such a reliable little fool...”

The silence in the grand ballroom was absolute, heavy, and suffocating. You could have heard a pin drop on the thick carpeting.
