Chapter 4 - The Cabo Meltdown and the Bank Account Wipe

Daniel stared through the phone screen, his mouth opening and closing like a stranded fish. For a moment, the ambient noise of the Cabo resort seemed to vanish, replaced by the sheer terror of a man realizing he had stepped off a cliff.

"What do you mean, your house?!" Daniel screamed, drawing sideways glances from resort guests walking past him in the lobby. "We live there! That’s our marital home! You can't just—what did you do?!"

"I sold it, Daniel," I replied calmly, adjusting Maya’s pink blanket. "Two point eight million dollars, all cash, closed this morning. The new owner is currently remodeling, and your personal belongings have been neatly packed into storage pods parked out front. You might want to hire a moving company to pick them up before the city towing service impounds them."

Right behind Daniel on the screen, his mother, Teresa, suddenly shoved her way into the frame, her face contorted with rage.

"You treacherous little witch!" Teresa shrieked into the phone. "You can't sell Daniel's house! That’s our family home! We planned to move into the guest wing next year! I'm going to call my lawyer and sue you into oblivion!"

"Go ahead, Teresa," I smiled faintly. "Call your lawyer. But make sure you ask them to explain what a prenuptial separate property liquidation clause means under state real estate law. Oh, and while you're talking to lawyers, you might want to ask Daniel about the joint savings account."

Daniel went entirely pale. The bravado drained out of him instantly.

"What... what about the savings account?" Daniel stammered, his voice dropping to a panicked whisper.

"Well, while you were enjoying margaritas in Cabo, I realized that as a co-signatory on our secondary joint account—which you regularly used to fund your mother's shopping sprees behind my back—I had full legal authority to withdraw my initial capital contributions," I said smoothly. "So I transferred every single cent of my personal funds—amounting to four hundred thousand dollars—out of the joint account and into my sole trust account."

Daniel clutched his head with both hands, stumbling backward into a resort pillar. "You wiped out our accounts?! How are we supposed to pay for our flight back?! How are we going to pay the mortgage?!"

"There is no mortgage, Daniel, because I paid cash for the house in the first place, remember?" I reminded him gently. "And as for your flight back? I suggest you use your own credit card. Because as of five minutes ago, I also filed formal paperwork for a expedited legal separation and sole custody of Maya, citing financial abandonment, mental cruelty, and domestic sabotage."

Teresa let out a blood-curdling shriek and burst into theatrical tears in the background, while Daniel stared at me through the screen as if he were looking at a ghost. He had tried to break me by locking me out in the rain with a newborn baby. Instead, he had given me the exact legal catalyst I needed to burn his fraudulent, parasitic lifestyle to the ground.

"Claire... please," Daniel whimpered, his voice cracking as reality finally set in. "We can talk about this. Let's not be hasty. Let's work it out when we get back home—"

"There is no home to come back to, Daniel," I interrupted, my voice as cold as ice. "And when you do fly back, you'll be served with divorce papers at the airport. Goodbye, Daniel."

I tapped the red end-call button, cutting him off forever.
