Chapter 4 - The House of Cards Collapses

The interrogation room inside the federal maritime facility was stark, windowless, and freezing.

Julian Vance sat at the metal table, his designer suit rumpled, his face pale and sweating profusely under the harsh fluorescent lights. For the past hour, federal investigators had systematically dismantled every single illusion he had built. They hadn't just detained him for attempted murder; they had frozen every corporate account, seized all company assets, and audited every financial ledger associated with his logistics firm.

The heavy steel door swung open, and Admiral Thomas Sterling walked into the room.

My father didn't shout. He didn't throw punches. He didn't need to. He wore his immaculate dress white uniform adorned with rows of ribbons and stars, moving with a cold, terrifying grace that made Julian shrink back into his chair as if he had been struck.

“A-Admiral Sterling?” Julian stammered, his voice cracking horribly as the pieces finally clicked together in his terrified brain. “Sir... there’s been a massive misunderstanding. Victoria acted on her own, she manipulated me, I swear—!”

My father placed both palms flat on the metal table, leaning forward until his eyes locked onto Julian’s trembling pupils.

“You attempted to murder my daughter and my unborn grandchild,” my father said, his voice dropping into a low, rumbling bass that sounded like distant thunder. “You drugged her, bound her, and dragged her across open water to cover up your corporate infidelity and secure a clean divorce settlement. And you did it using capital funded entirely by my family’s private trust.”

Julian swallowed hard, his throat dry as sandpaper. “The... the trust? But Genevieve said her family was just—military pension—!”

“Genevieve protected your fragile ego because she wanted to see if you possessed an ounce of genuine human decency,” my father interrupted coldly. “You failed that test definitively. As of 0800 hours this morning, our legal team has officially revoked every single line of credit, recalled every emergency business loan, and filed motions for immediate corporate bankruptcy liquidation against your firm.”

Julian’s face turned the color of ash. “You can’t do that... my investors, my contracts, the board of directors—they’ll sue! We have millions in pending logistics deals!”

“You had millions,” my father corrected him, standing up straight and buttoning his jacket. “As of right now, your company has been delisted, your assets are frozen under federal national security statutes due to maritime assault investigations, and your PR director has already signed a full confession implicating you as the primary mastermind of the entire plot.”

Before Julian could beg, plead, or form another coherent sentence, two federal marshals stepped into the room, hauled him out of his chair, and snapped steel handcuffs around his wrists. His multimillion-dollar empire, built on lies, betrayal, and unearned arrogance, had vanished in less than twelve hours.
