Renata was charged with child endangerment and reckless injury to a child under statutes that don't require proving intent to kill, only proving a knowing disregard for a substantial risk to the child's life — which the prosecution had no trouble establishing once the timeline was laid out: the powder purchase, the pattern of exposure, the repeatedly cancelled appointments that would have named the danger clearly enough for anyone else to see it, and an insurance policy that only made financial sense if something eventually went wrong.
She took a plea rather than risk a jury seeing the full timeline laid end to end. Grant filed for divorce before the criminal case even concluded, and pursued and was granted sole legal and physical custody of Lily without meaningful contest — Renata's attorney reportedly advised her not to fight it, given everything else already in the record.
Lily's allergist finally got the comprehensive workup that had been cancelled twice before, confirmed the severity of the peanut allergy formally, and built her a real action plan — one that didn't depend on anyone in her household deciding, shift by shift, whether to call what was happening to her a medical emergency or an inconvenient tantrum.

I still see her sometimes. Grant brings her into Rosalee's on Saturday mornings now, and she orders the same bowl of tomato soup every time, and I make sure, personally, that nothing touches her plate that hasn't been checked twice. She still smells things before she eats them. I don't think that habit is going away soon, and I don't blame her for keeping it.
I never found out for certain who left that folder under the back door. I have a guess — the front-desk clerk who wrote the note admitted to Ruiz that she'd been the one, once the case was already moving and there was nothing left to protect by staying anonymous — but I've never asked her directly, and some part of me doesn't need to. Somebody saw a pattern and was scared to say it out loud until another person said it first. That's most of what changes anything, in my experience. Not one dramatic moment. Just one person willing to be the second name on the record instead of letting the first one stand alone.
