Chapter 5 - The Queen’s Vengeance

Three months later, the financial district of Manhattan was basking in the crisp, brilliant sunlight of a late autumn afternoon.

Inside the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of Alden Meridian Holdings, the atmosphere was electric with renewal and absolute stability. The board of directors had unanimously ratified a complete structural reorganization, consolidating all subsidiary assets under direct family trust control. Pierce Aero had rebranded, shedding its lingering associations with past mismanagement and soaring to record quarterly profits.

At the head of the massive mahogany conference room table sat Vivian Alden Pierce.

She wore a structured ivory blazer, her posture upright, her expression serene and unburdened. The shadow of the past had been completely swept away, replaced by the fierce, unshakeable strength of a woman who had tested her empire’s foundations and found them unbreakable.

The heavy oak doors opened quietly, and Nora stepped in, holding a fresh silver coffee service and a single afternoon financial report.

“The preliminary acquisition papers for the West Coast aviation hub have cleared legal review, Mrs. Pierce,” Nora reported with a subtle smile. “All board members have signed off.”

“Excellent,” Vivian replied, taking the portfolio and scanning the numbers. “File them with corporate compliance.”

Nora hesitated for a moment, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. “If you don’t mind me asking... have you heard anything about the trial proceedings for Mr. Pierce?”

Vivian didn’t look up from her papers. Her pen moved smoothly across the margin of the document. “The federal prosecutor’s office updated me this morning. Given the scale of the fraudulent transfers and the falsified corporate filings, his defense counsel has advised him to accept a plea deal. He’s looking at a minimum of eight years in a federal penitentiary upstate.”

Nora nodded slowly, a look of profound respect crossing her face. “And Ms. Monroe?”

“Her social media accounts have been permanently deleted,” Vivian said dryly. “She’s currently working a retail job in New Jersey trying to pay off her mounting legal fees and rental back-pay. Apparently, luxury influencer culture doesn’t survive contact with actual federal debt collection.”

Vivian closed the folder with a soft, decisive snap. She turned her head toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, looking out over the magnificent skyline of the city she had conquered. Far below, cutting across the crisp blue sky, a sleek private jet bearing the Alden Meridian insignia climbed steadily into the clouds, banking gracefully toward the horizon.

She reached up, her fingers lightly touching the soft silk of a brand-new, deep emerald Hermès scarf knotted elegantly around her neck—a scarf she had bought herself, a symbol of personal sovereignty that no one could ever steal, borrow, or compromise.

Vivian smiled, a warm, genuine expression of hard-won peace.

Let the world whisper. Let the pretenders try to wear the crown.

She was Vivian Alden Pierce, and the empire belonged entirely to her.
