Chapter 5 - A New Dawn at the Gallow Estate

Three months later, the morning sun broke through the tall Gothic windows of the Gallow Estate's grand dining room, casting long, warm golden rays across the polished mahogany table. The air no longer smelled solely of cold ash and gunpowder; today, it carried the faint, sweet scent of fresh vanilla pancakes and blooming spring roses from the courtyard garden.

Dominic sat at the head of the table, reviewing the morning docks ledger with his customary focus. But his eyes kept drifting toward the open French doors leading out to the sunlit terrace.

Out on the lush green lawn, beneath the shade of a sprawling oak tree, a little girl with a head full of soft, growing chestnut curls was laughing brightly as she chased a golden retriever puppy across the grass. Her cheeks were rosy, filled with vibrant health and boundless energy.

Sitting nearby on a comfortable patio lounger, dressed in a soft cream-colored summer dress instead of the drab gray uniform of the past, was Linda. She held a cup of coffee in her hand, her face relaxed, the dark, bruised circles under her eyes entirely gone, replaced by a radiant, peaceful smile as she watched her daughter play.

She looked up, catching Dominic watching her through the glass.

Instead of freezing or looking down in fear the way she used to on her first day, Linda simply smiled back—a warm, genuine gesture of profound gratitude that reached all the way to her eyes.

Dominic tipped his coffee mug toward her in a silent, respectful salute. A faint, rare smile touched the corner of his lips.

In his world, power was measured by how many enemies you could crush beneath your heel. But as he watched the laughter echo across the courtyard, Dominic finally understood a different kind of strength—the kind that came from saving a life instead of taking one. And for the first time in his ruthless career, he decided that was the best legacy he could possibly build.
