Chapter 5 - Dawn Over Lagos
Three months later, the golden morning sun rose over Lagos, washing the Atlantic coastline in a brilliant, sparkling light that chased away the memory of the rainy storm.
Amaka stood on the expansive marble balcony of her newly restored family home in Ikoyi, sipping a cup of steaming ginger tea. The 480 million naira debt had been completely restructured and audited under a clean, transparent corporate governance framework overseen by the newly restructured Adebayo-Okonkwo Holdings. Her father had stepped down, humbled and broken of his old hubris, leaving the management of the logistics firm in competent, honest hands. Her mother and brother were safe, traveling abroad to heal from the ordeal.
Footsteps echoed softly behind her, followed by the familiar, comforting warmth of arms wrapping gently around her waist.
"You're up early," David murmured, resting his chin softly on her shoulder as he looked out over the sparkling harbor.
"I still have a major corporate presentation in Victoria Island today," Amaka smiled, leaning back against him. "Only this time, I'm not running away from my life. I'm running the company."
David chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. "You know, technically, according to my father's original contract, we were supposed to be married in a grand ceremony by now."
Amaka turned around in his arms, her eyes sparkling with playful mischief as she looped her arms around his neck. "Who says anything about a grand ceremony dictated by your father? If you want to marry me, David Adebayo, you're going to have to court me properly—starting with dinner at that little local spot in Yaba where we first met after the shipyard."

As the vibrant sounds of Lagos traffic hummed peacefully in the distance, Amaka knew the shadows of the past had finally been laid to rest. She wasn't human collateral anymore; she was the architect of her own destiny.
