Chapter 4 - The Tables Turn

Within twelve minutes, the peaceful illusion of the Bellweather Grand shattered into absolute chaos.
There were no subtle sirens, no quiet knocks on executive doors. Instead, three unmarked black SUVs tore up the hotel's cobblestone driveway, their tires screeching as federal agents in full tactical gear poured out of the vehicles and flooded the grand marble lobby. Guests screamed and scattered as armed officers secured the elevators and sealed every exit.
Up on the eleventh floor, Richard Vale was barking orders at two floor supervisors when the service stairwell door burst open with a deafening crash.
"Federal agents! Nobody move!"
Before Richard could even reach for his pocket, heavy hands slammed him against the mahogany-paneled wall, snapping steel handcuffs around his wrists with a sharp clack.
Inside the penthouse suite, Victor Grant and Arthur Vance were calmly discussing their exit strategy when the main double doors were kicked off their hydraulic hinges.
"Federal Task Force! Victor Grant, Arthur Vance—you are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, obstruction of justice, and the premeditated murder of James Sterling!" Agent Miller roared, stepping into the suite with his service weapon drawn, flanked by half a dozen heavily armed agents.
Victor turned around slowly, his face draining of all color. For the first time in decades, the untouchable corporate titan looked his age—old, cornered, and utterly defeated. As federal agents slapped heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists, his eyes drifted past the officers.
Standing in the doorway, leaning casually against the doorframe with her arms crossed over her faded gray housekeeping tunic, was Olivia.
She wasn't wearing her hairnet anymore. Her dark curls fell freely around her shoulders, and her eyes burned with a fierce, cold triumph that made Victor flinch.
"You..." Victor whispered, his voice trembling. "You were right under our noses the entire time."
"You should have paid better attention to your employees, Victor," Olivia replied, her voice ringing clear and sharp through the luxurious suite. "My father always told me some buildings remember what people try to forget. But apparently, greed makes people forget how to listen."
Arthur Vance stared at her in utter disbelief, his face contorting with rage. "You ruined everything, you foolish girl! Sterling Holdings will tear itself apart without leadership!"
"Sterling Holdings is about to get the best leadership it has ever had," Olivia said coldly, stepping aside as federal agents hauled both men past her toward the elevator.
As the doors closed on the architects of her father's ruin, Olivia closed her eyes and took a deep, steadying breath. The heavy weight that had sat on her chest for three long years finally lifted.
Two hours later, the lobby of the Bellweather Grand was empty of guests, filled instead with federal investigators, forensic accountants, and corporate executives rushing to salvage what remained of the crippled empire.
Olivia stood near the grand entrance, wearing her cheap white sneakers and her gray uniform pants, looking out over the lobby where she had scrubbed brass rails just days before.
A frail, trembling hand touched her arm.
Olivia turned to see Martha Jenkins standing there, holding a small cardboard box containing her personal belongings. The elderly maid looked up at her with tearful, bewildered eyes.
"Ms. Sterling," Martha whispered softly, having overheard the hushed conversations of the federal agents. "Are you... are you really the owner?"

Olivia looked down at the elderly woman, her expression softening completely. She reached out and gently placed her hand over Martha’s trembling fingers.
"I am," Olivia said with a warm, genuine smile. "And I have a proposition for you, Martha."
