Chapter 3 - The Grand Gala and the Uninvited Past

The grand lobby of the Kingsley North Headquarters hummed with wealth, power, and champagne glasses clinking against tuxedo lapels. Chandeliers made of hand-blown Austrian glass cast a golden glow over the marble floors, where Atlanta's elite gathered to celebrate the unstoppable rise of Nolan Kingsley.

Nolan stood at the center of the ballroom, wearing a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, holding court with venture capitalists and tech journalists. Sienna Blake stood beside him, draped in a diamond-encrusted silver gown that practically screamed high fashion. Flashbulbs popped continuously, capturing the portrait of modern corporate royalty.

"To the next trillion," a senior investor toasted, raising his glass toward Nolan.

"To building a future without looking back," Nolan replied smoothly, his eyes scanning the crowd with supreme confidence. He felt invincible. He had shed his past, buried his humble beginnings under layers of glass and steel, and proven to the world—and himself—that he was a self-made titan.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the main entrance of the ballroom pushed open.

The low murmur of conversation rippled and died down. A hush fell over the room as security guards at the door stiffened, unsure how to react.

Stepping into the golden light was Amelia Rowen.

She wasn't wearing the dowdy cardigans or practical flats from her days of living in the shadow of his ambition. She wore a stunning, emerald-green silk gown that commanded the room without screaming for attention. Her hair was swept back into a sleek, elegant chignon, and her posture was that of a queen reclaiming her throne.

But it wasn't Amelia alone who froze the breath in Nolan's lungs.

Walking beside her, holding her hands, were two impeccably dressed toddlers—identical twin boys, Leo and Liam, wearing miniature velvet blazers. They looked up at the towering chandeliers with wide, curious eyes, entirely unaware that they had just walked into the lion's den.

Nolan’s glass nearly slipped from his fingers. The confident smirk vanished instantly, replaced by a pale, horrified expression. He handed his champagne flute to a nearby waiter and marched across the polished marble, his jaw clenched tight.

"Amelia," Nolan hissed, stepping directly into her path, keeping his voice low enough to avoid the surrounding reporters. "What the hell are you doing here? How did you even get past security? This is a private corporate event, not a playground!"

Amelia didn't flinch. She looked up at him, her eyes as cold and clear as mountain ice.

"Good evening, Nolan," she said calmly, her voice carrying clearly in the tense silence of the room. "We wouldn't miss your big night for the world. After all... a family should always be together to celebrate milestones."

Sienna glided over, her face twisted in a sneer. "Look at you, still trying to cling to relevance. Security! Escort this bitter woman and her kids out before I have them thrown into the street."

Before security could take a single step forward, the heavy glass doors opened once more. This time, three senior partners from Atlanta's most prestigious corporate law firm walked in, accompanied by two federal bailiffs holding official court documents.
