Chapter 5 - The Queen of the Empire

The private balcony of the penthouse overlooked the glittering, sprawling expanse of the city skyline as dusk settled over the harbor. Millions of neon lights blinked into existence like a galaxy of fallen stars, casting a warm, golden glow across the glass panels of the terrace.
Sadi stood resting her hands lightly against the polished steel railing, the evening breeze catching the ends of her dark hair. She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that draped gracefully around her figure, entirely unbranded, entirely understated, yet radiating a quiet, timeless class that money alone could never buy.
Footsteps echoed softly behind her on the hardwood floor.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. A heavy platinum wedding band caught the ambient city light as Roman rested his chin comfortably on her shoulder.
"The federal marshals picked him up ten minutes ago," Roman murmured softly against her ear, his breath warm in the cool evening air. "His bail was denied. His assets are frozen. Sterling & Croft is officially dissolved and being rebranded as a philanthropic trust under your name."
Sadi turned her head slightly, a soft, genuine smile gracing her lips. "My name?"
"Every single dollar of corporate profit generated by that firm from now on goes directly into funding shelters and educational programs for underprivileged women and families starting over from scratch," Roman replied, his voice laced with deep, unwavering devotion. "A fitting legacy for a place that tried to measure human worth by a bank statement."
Sadi leaned back into his embrace, her heart swelling with a profound sense of peace. The ghost of her past—the cramped diner shifts, the cold kitchen floors, the stinging humiliation of being discarded like trash—finally felt a million miles away.
"You didn't have to do all of that, Roman," she whispered playfully. "A simple restraining order would have worked."
"A restraining order is for men who lack imagination," Roman chuckled softly, tightening his arms around her. "Besides, nobody touches my wife in my city and walks away to talk about it. Rule number one of the underworld, darling: never underestimate a ghost, and never, ever kick a queen."
Sadi turned around fully in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking up into those deep, obsidian eyes that held the entire world in their grasp. For all his ruthlessness, for all the terrifying power he commanded in the shadows, to her, he was simply home.
"And what happens now?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Roman smiled—a rare, gentle, completely unguarded smile reserved only for her.
"Now," he said softly, pressing his forehead gently against hers, "we have dinner, we ignore the city below us, and we spend the rest of our lives reminding the world that real power isn't loud, shattering glass, or heavy fists..."

He kissed her softly, lingeringly, the world outside fading into quiet insignificance.
"...Real power is the woman standing quietly by my side."
