Chapter 5 - Ashes to Allies

The sit-down with the Rossi syndicate was supposed to take place on neutral ground, but intelligence gathered by Narin while cleaning Declan’s desk revealed a massive betrayal: Victor’s second-in-command had been bought off by the Rossis to ambush Declan’s loyal men during the summit.
When Victor brought the finalized logistics to the desk, Narin stopped dusting the grandfather clock.
"The warehouse on Tenth Street isn't safe," she blurted out, breaking the strict rule of never speaking unless spoken to.
Declan and Victor snapped their heads toward her.
"Explain," Declan commanded, his eyes narrowing sharply.
"The delivery receipts for the security upgrades at that warehouse were signed by Marcus, not your logistics team," Narin said calmly, stepping forward with a stack of intercepted memos she had quietly sorted the night before. "Marcus has been meeting with Rossi's men behind your back. The ambush is set for the moment you arrive."
Victor stared at the papers, his face draining of color. He investigated the claim within minutes, confirming the devastating treason. Instead of walking into a slaughterhouse, Declan used the trap against them. He lured the traitorous faction into a corner, dismantled the Rossi family’s financial network through clever corporate maneuvers, and forced a permanent, bloodless surrender without firing a single shot.
A week later, the eviction notice on Narin's old apartment door was nothing more than a bad memory, replaced by a permanent suite on the top floor of the Graham estate and a healthy, growing bank account.
On a bright Sunday morning, the heavy curtains of the east wing were thrown entirely wide open, flooding the once-dark study with brilliant golden sunlight. Declan sat in his wheelchair by the window, looking out over the sprawling gardens, no longer a ghost haunting a mausoleum, but a man reclaiming his life.
Narin walked in carrying a fresh cup of coffee, pausing beside his chair.
"You're late," Declan murmured, a faint, rare ghost of a smirk touching the corner of his lips.
May you like
"Traffic," Narin replied smoothly, setting the mug down. "And besides, my contract says I set my own hours now, Mr. Graham."
Declan chuckled—a low, genuine sound that echoed warmly through the sunlit room—proving to everyone that the most feared man in the city had finally met his match.
