Chapter 3 - The Blood on the Concrete

The interior of the abandoned warehouse was lit only by swinging overhead halogen lamps that cast long, distorted shadows across stacked crates of contraband and chemical barrels. In the center of the vast, open room, tied securely to metal chairs, sat Clara Bennett and a thirteen-year-old boy with messy dark hair and eyes that instantly pierced straight through Luca’s soul.

Marco.

He looked terrified, shivering from the cold and the ordeal, but his chin was tilted upward with a stubborn defiance that belonged entirely to his mother.

Standing beside them with a heavy caliber pistol pressed casually against Clara’s temple was Salvatore Moretti, a bulky, scarred enforcer whose arrogance had blinded him to the reality of who he was dealing with.

"Well, well, well," Salvatore mocked, grinning as Luca stepped out from the shadows into the harsh pool of light. "The great Luca Rinaldi. Walking right into a slaughterhouse for a woman who abandoned him and a brat he didn't even know existed."

Luca didn't flinch. He walked forward slowly, keeping his hands visible, his entire focus locked onto his son. "Let them go, Salvatore. This is between you and me."

"Oh, it's bigger than that, Luca!" Salvatore laughed, pressing the pistol harder against Clara’s temple, causing her to wince. "You took our port contracts. You squeezed us out of the real estate developments. And now, you're going to hand over full control of your import networks on a silver platter, or I splatter your precious journalist's brains across this concrete floor right before I put a bullet in your son's heart."

Clara raised her head, her amber eyes locking onto Luca’s with a mixture of desperate fear and fierce love. "Don't do it, Luca! He’s bluffing! Just get Marco out of here!"

"Shut up, bitch!" Salvatore snarled, raising his hand to strike her.

That was the exact millisecond Luca moved.

Years of calculated discipline, combat training, and ruthless survival instincts exploded into motion. Before Salvatore’s hand could make contact with Clara’s face, Luca’s Sig Sauer barked once.

The bullet struck Salvatore’s gun hand with terrifying precision, shattering bone and sending the pistol spinning away across the concrete with a loud clatter. Salvatore shrieked in agony, clutching his mangled wrist as blood poured between his fingers.

Before the remaining four guards stationed around the room could raise their weapons, Marcus Reed and the Rinaldi tactical team swarmed the room from the catwalks above. A flurry of silenced gunfire echoed through the warehouse, dropping the enforcers cleanly before they could fire a single shot.

The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by the sound of dripping water from a leaking roof pipe and Salvatore’s whimpering groans as he collapsed to his knees.

Luca didn't look at the dying men. He dropped his weapon back into its holster, crossed the concrete floor in three long strides, and fell to his knees beside Clara and Marco.
