Chapter 3 - Unraveling the Syndicate

I dragged Dustin across the canvas and tossed him violently into the center of the ring, right beside his groaning, broken coach. Bruno was clutching his ruined arm, whimpering in pain, while the other fighters were slowly starting to regain consciousness, staring at me with expressions of sheer, unadulterated terror.
“You mentioned your uncle’s criminal operation,” I said calmly, pulling a heavy-duty zip-tie from my pocket—standard tactical gear I always kept in my truck. “The one that thinks it can threaten my family and hide behind local intimidation tactics.”
“I—I don't know what you're talking about!” Dustin lied instantly, his eyes darting frantically toward the locked exit doors.
I didn't argue with him. I simply grabbed his right wrist, forced his arm behind his back, and cinched the zip-tie down with brutal, unforgiving tightness. “Your uncle is Victor Vance, isn’t he? The loan shark and narcotics distributor operating out of the shipping docks on Fourth Street. He uses your MMA gym as a front to launder cash and recruit muscle for his collection ring.”
Dustin’s jaw dropped. The color drained completely from his face. “How... how do you know that?”
“Because long before you ever learned how to throw a punch in a padded ring, I spent decades tracking down international syndicates and dismantling cartel cells that made your uncle look like a petty shoplifter,” I replied coldly, pressing my knee gently into the small of his back. “And while you were busy terrorizing a nineteen-year-old college student, my wife—who happens to be a senior ER nurse with connections across every major law enforcement agency in this state—was quietly uploading your medical reports, your financial transfers, and your text message threats directly to a federal task force.”
As if on cue, the heavy exterior metal doors of the gym began to rattle violently. Heavy boots hammered against the steel frame, accompanied by authoritative shouts from outside: “Federal Bureau of Investigation! Open the door immediately!”
Bruno groaned from the floor, his eyes widening in horror as he realized the gym was completely surrounded.
I unlocked the deadbolt and pulled the door open. Standing outside in the pouring rain was a tactical unit of federal agents, led by Agent Marcus Vance—no relation to the criminal, but a former student of mine from my Camp Pendleton days. Marcus took one look at me standing calmly amidst a pile of groaning MMA fighters, glanced down at Dustin cowering in zip-ties inside the ring, and couldn't help a small, knowing smile breaking across his stern face.

“Looks like you beat us to the target again, Gunsight,” Marcus greeted me, flashing his badge.
“Just securing the perimeter, Agent Vance,” I replied steadily, stepping aside to let the federal team flood into the facility. “You’ll find corporate ledgers, unregistered firearms, and a stash of illicit narcotics in the manager's office upstairs. The primary target is waiting for you inside the ring.”
