Chapter 4 - The Tables Turn

Brett stopped talking mid-sentence. His eyes drifted slowly from my face to the massive screen glowing on the wall behind me.

"What... what is this?" Brett stammered, his confident demeanor instantly evaporating as he stared at the itemized list of his secret bank transfers and hotel receipts.

"That, Brett, is your financial autopsy," I said, my voice cutting through the quiet office like a scalpel. I stood up slowly from my desk, walking around until I stood right in front of him. All the warmth in my eyes was completely gone, replaced by a glacial, unyielding calm.

"Naomi, I can explain," Brett scrambled backward, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the hardwood floor. "This... this is a misunderstanding! Someone framed me! What are these documents?"

"Room 347 at the Riverside Hotel," I recited smoothly, ticking fingers off one by one. "Two filet mignons, a bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and Sienna Vale. Shall I call her right now on speakerphone and ask how the black dress you bought her fits?"

The color drained entirely from Brett's face. He looked like he had just been struck by lightning. "How... how did you find out?"

"You left your blazer behind, Brett," I smiled coldly. "And more importantly, you underestimated your wife. You thought you could trap me with a predatory prenuptial agreement, bleed my accounts, and kick me to the curb while playing house with your mistress. But you made one critical mistake."

"What... what mistake?" he whispered, trembling.

"You gave me a very smart legal team," I replied, crossing my arms over my chest. "Under Section 9 of our prenuptial agreement, premeditated financial fraud and asset concealment completely nullify every single protection you thought you had. Marcus Sterling filed our counter-suit this morning at nine o'clock. You don't just walk away empty-handed, Brett. Because of your fraud, the court is seizing your personal investment portfolio, liquidating your share of our marital assets to repay the funds you embezzled, and granting me full, unencumbered ownership of my agency."

Brett lunged forward in absolute desperation, his hands outstretched. "Naomi, please! Don't do this! We can talk about this! We can go to counseling! I love you, I swear to God—"

"Don't you dare touch me," I snapped, my voice ringing with such authority that he froze in his tracks, his arms dropping limply to his sides. "Pack your bags, Brett. You have two hours to get out of this house before the county sheriff serves you with formal restraining orders and asset freeze notices. If you are still here when my attorney arrives, I will ensure every single corporate board member at your consulting firm receives copies of these embezzlement records before dinner."

He stood there, broken and utterly defeated, realizing that his grand scheme had completely imploded. Without another word, he turned, stumbled out of the office, and ran upstairs to pack whatever he could grab before his entire world collapsed.
