Chapter 2 - The Ledger of Ruin

The ride home was quiet. As the Minneapolis skyline grew in the distance, Stella’s phone began to vibrate. It wasn't Gavin—he was likely still basking in the glow of his own performative success. It was the digital notification from her legal team.
> Legal Update (Summit Development Alliance): Promissory note maturity date: Today. Filing of lien against secondary assets initiated.
Gavin believed he had bought the estate. He had been so obsessed with the image of the "five-million-dollar man" that he had signed the $300,000 promissory note without even glancing at the fine print. He had convinced himself that he was "borrowing" from his in-laws, never suspecting that the "in-laws" were actually the silent majority shareholders of his own corporate firm.
He hadn't realized that the catering contract he signed—the one that had fed a hundred guests the finest prime rib—was brokered through a shell company owned by Stella.
When they arrived at the apartment, Stella walked into her office. It was a stark contrast to the performative luxury of the estate. Here, there were no gold earrings or designer suits. There were wall-to-wall monitors, real estate portfolios, and the quiet, heavy power of real wealth.
She opened the file labeled Harrell - Liquidation.
