Chapter 4 - The Confrontation in Lomas

By midnight, the storm had finally broken over Mexico City. Rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Lomas de Chapultepec mansion, matching the dark, turbulent energy that filled the grand living room.

Valeria was sitting on the white leather sofa, sipping a glass of red wine. Her lawyers had managed to delay her immediate arrest at the hospital on a technicality, but she knew the net was closing. Yet, even now, her arrogance remained fully intact. She had already drafted a public relations statement claiming a "rogue staff member" had abused her trust, intending to launch a preemptive strike in the morning papers.

The heavy front doors swung open, and Ricardo walked in. He was still wearing his stained shirt, but his posture was that of a man who had just returned from a war room. Behind him came Detective Ortega, two uniformed federal police officers, and a female prosecutor from the Special Unit for Crimes Against Children.

Valeria didn't stand up. She simply raised her glass. "Ricardo, really. This dramatic entrance is unnecessary. My legal team has already resolved the hospital’s misunderstanding. We will issue a joint statement in the morning blaming the housekeepers. It’s the cleanest way to protect the family name."

"There is no 'we' anymore, Valeria," Ricardo said, walking to the center of the room. He didn't look at her lawyers, who stood up to intervene. "Sit down," he growled at the attorneys. The sheer force of his voice made them freeze.

Ricardo reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a sleek black tablet, tossing it onto the glass coffee table in front of Valeria. The screen was already playing a video file.

Valeria glanced down, her casual expression instantly freezing.

The video, dated three weeks prior, showed her dressed in a stunning emerald-green gown, holding a glass of champagne. Diego was clinging to her leg, crying and begging not to be put back into the room. On the high-definition footage, Valeria could be seen violently slapping the boy across the face, grabbing him by his hair, and dragging him down the hallway toward the guest wing. The audio was crystal clear—Diego’s terrified screams echoing through the empty house while Valeria hissed, "You are ruining my night! You are a selfish little brat!" before slamming the heavy oak door and turning the deadbolt.

"This is private security footage," Valeria’s lead lawyer stammered, his face turning pale. "This was obtained without a warrant—"

"I own this house," Ricardo interrupted, his voice dropping to a icy, lethal whisper. "Every camera, every server, every brick of this place was paid for by my company. I don't need a warrant to access my own network. And this footage has already been transferred to the federal prosecutor's database."

The female prosecutor stepped forward, pulling a document from her briefcase. "Valeria Galván, I have a warrant for your immediate arrest on charges of attempted murder, aggravated child abuse, illegal confinement, and the administration of controlled substances to a minor."

"No... no, this is a mistake!" Valeria screamed, finally losing her composure. She stood up, her wine glass slipping from her hand and shattering on the marble floor, the red liquid pooling like blood. "I am Valeria Galván! My father is a senator! You cannot arrest me in my own home!"

"Your father already cut his phone lines three hours ago, Valeria," Ricardo said, stepping close enough to look down into her panicked, bulging eyes. "I personally sent him the medical reports and the video files. He knows that if he tries to help you, I will leak this footage to every news outlet from Mexico City to Madrid. You are entirely on your own."

As the uniformed officers stepped forward, pulling the heavy steel handcuffs from their belts, Valeria’s high-society veneer completely disintegrated. She began to scream, clawing at the officers, her perfect hair falling wild around her face as she looked at Ricardo with a mixture of terror and venomous hatred.

"You did this!" she shrieked as the metal cuffs clicked tightly around her wrists. "You left us for three months! You cared more about your company than your family!"

"I left my son in the care of his mother," Ricardo said, his eyes completely devoid of pity. "I didn't know I was leaving him with a monster. But I promise you this, Valeria: by the time I am done with you, the only thing people will remember about your perfect life is the number on your prison uniform."
