Chapter 3 - The Unraveling of the Matriarch

The finance manager blinked rapidly, looking down at the official government stamps on the manila envelope as if it were a venomous snake coil ready to strike. The polished, quiet luxury of the Mercedes-Benz showroom suddenly felt heavy, charged with the unmistakable electricity of impending corporate catastrophe.
"Excuse me, ma'am," the manager stammered, adjusting his pristine silk tie nervously. "What kind of discrepancies are we talking about? We have a legally binding credit application on file, signed and submitted through secure channels by the primary co-signer..."
"Submitted using a completely fraudulent signature, executed without the consent or knowledge of the legal party whose identity was misappropriated," I interrupted smoothly, sliding the certified police report across the polished glass table right into his line of sight. "As a licensed certified public accountant who managed the books for the primary guarantor, I can assure you that any contract executed under that specific guarantor profile is legally void ab initio. Furthermore, if this dealership proceeds with the delivery of this vehicle under a demonstrably fraudulent credit profile, your compliance department will find themselves directly entangled in a federal wire fraud investigation."
The manager’s face went from professional peach to chalk-white in less than three seconds. He snatched up the police report, his eyes darting frantically across the official seal, reading the case number and the explicit charges of forgery and identity theft.
"This... this is an extremely serious allegation," the manager breathed out, his voice dropping to a panicked whisper. He looked over at Cassiana, who was now backed up against a velvet-upholstered display pillar, looking like a cornered animal. "Miss Cassiana, where is your brother? We need him down here immediately."
"He's probably wondering why his phone is currently blowing up with emergency alerts," I noted calmly, checking my watch as my own phone buzzed with an incoming call from Thaddius himself. I silenced the ringer with a flick of my thumb, letting it ring out into the void. "Oh, don't worry. He'll be here soon enough. Evangelene is undoubtedly dispatching him right now, shrieking at the top of her lungs, completely unaware that her entire family's house of cards is about to collapse into dust."
True to form, less than ten minutes later, the front glass doors blew open with a violent crash. Evangelene strode into the showroom like an enraged general marching onto a battlefield she fully expected to conquer. Behind her hurried Thaddius, looking disheveled, his expensive suit jacket unbuttoned, sweat beading heavily on his forehead as he tried to keep pace with his mother's furious momentum.
"Lysandra! Have you completely lost your absolute mind?!" Evangelene shrieked across the expansive showroom floor, ignoring the startled gasps of several prospective car buyers nearby. She marched straight up to our table, her finger pointing accusingly right at my face. "How dare you humiliate my daughter! How dare you cut off our calls and threaten staff members! Thaddius, fix your ungrateful wife right this second or I swear—"
"Mother, shut up," Thaddius gasped, finally catching up, panting heavily as he grabbed Evangelene’s arm to pull her back. His wide, terrified eyes weren't looking at me with anger anymore; they were fixed entirely on the open forensic ledger and the police report resting on the glass table. The color had completely vanished from his cheeks.
"Thaddius! What do you mean, shut up? Make her pay for the car! Make her transfer the funds!" Cassiana wailed, rushing toward her brother and grabbing his lapels. "She's saying crazy things! She's saying the loan is forged! Tell them it's real! Tell them she's just a bitter ex-wife trying to ruin my birthday!"
Thaddius slowly peeled Cassiana’s hands off his jacket, his hands trembling so violently he could barely keep his fingers steady. He looked down at me, his expression twisting into a mixture of absolute horror and desperate pleading.
"Lysandra..." Thaddius whispered, his voice cracking miserably. "Please... you can't do this. If you file these reports, if you hand this ledger over to the authorities... my firm is finished. My license will be revoked. I'll... I'll go to prison."
The silence in the showroom was absolute. Evangelene stopped dead in her tracks, her mouth hanging open as the horrific reality of the situation finally penetrated her dense, entitled worldview.

"Prison?" Evangelene whispered, her shrill voice dropping to a horrified squeak. "What is he talking about, Lysandra? What kind of sick game are you playing with my son?"
I stood up slowly from my chair, smoothing down the front of my tailored blazer. I looked down at the three of them—the arrogant matriarch, the fraudulent architect, and the spoiled, greedy sister—standing together in their shared misery. Seven years of emotional abuse, financial exploitation, and systematic gaslighting had led to this exact second. And every single number in my ledger was the definitive proof they could never erase.
