Chapter 4 - The Boardroom War and the Final Strike

The war between the Constantino syndicate and the Moretti faction didn't happen in dark alleys with gunfire. It happened in corporate boardrooms, federal courts, and shipping yards across the entire northeastern seaboard.

Within forty-eight hours of Marco Moretti Jr.’s stunt at the bakery, Salvatore initiated a total financial dismantling of the Moretti empire. Shell companies were frozen, offshore accounts were seized through complex legal injunctions, and three major cargo ships carrying the Moretti family's primary contraband were intercepted by federal authorities acting on "anonymous tips" provided by Constantino’s legal team.

By Friday night, the Moretti family was completely cornered, desperate, and dangerous.

I was at the hospital visiting my mother, whose condition had dramatically improved under the specialized care Salvatore had provided. She was sitting up in bed, reading a book, her cheeks finally regaining some color.

"Lily, sweetheart, who is this man paying for all of this?" my mother asked for the hundredth time, her eyes filled with maternal worry. "Nobody spends this kind of money out of pure kindness."

"He's a friend, Mom," I said softly, squeezing her hand. "A very powerful friend who understands what it's like to lose someone."

Before she could ask more questions, my phone buzzed violently on the bedside table.

It wasn't a text. It was an emergency encrypted alert from Salvatore’s private security detail.

SECURE LOCATION COMPROMISED. MULTIPLE HOSTILES DETECTED NEAR HOSPITAL WING. EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.

My blood ran cold.

Before I could even stand up, the overhead lights in the hospital floor flickered and died, plunging the hallway into emergency red lighting. Heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor—not the steady rhythm of hospital staff, but the heavy, rushed boot-steps of armed intruders.

"Mom, stay in the bed. Don't make a sound," I whispered frantically, locking the hospital room door from the inside and pushing a heavy medical cart against it.

Through the narrow glass window of the door, I saw shadows moving. Heavy impacts slammed against the wood.

Bang!

The lock shattered, and the door burst open.

Marco Moretti Jr. stood in the doorway, holding a silenced 9mm pistol in his hand, his eyes wild and desperate. Two of his armed thugs flanked him.

"Well, well, well," Marco panted, a manic grin spreading across his face. "Looks like the old man's fortress isn't as impenetrable as he thought. You're coming with us, sweetheart. Let's see how arrogant Salvatore is when I send him pieces of his favorite waitress in a box."

My mother let out a terrified scream from the bed.

I stepped in front of her hospital bed, raising my hands to shield her, my heart pounding so hard I thought it would burst through my ribs. "Leave her out of this! If you want revenge against Salvatore, take me!"

"Oh, don't worry, we're taking both of—"

Marco never finished his sentence.

A deafening roar echoed down the sterile hospital hallway. A flash of blinding light illuminated the walls, followed by the crisp, synchronized cracking of professional suppression fire.

Marco’s two thugs dropped their weapons instantly, collapsing to the floor as specialized tactical charges blew the remaining hinges off the door frame.

Before Marco could raise his gun, a heavy, armored boot kicked the door inward, crushing it into splinters.

Salvatore Constantino walked into the room.

He wasn't wearing a suit jacket anymore. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing powerful forearms scarred from decades of survival. His face was carved from absolute granite, his gray eyes burning with cold, incandescent fury.

Marco spun around, raising his pistol toward Salvatore with a panicked shriek—but before his finger could pull the trigger, Mateo stepped out from the shadows behind Salvatore and fired a single, precise shot into Marco’s shoulder.

Marco screamed, dropping his gun as he crashed hard onto the linoleum floor, clutching his bleeding arm.

Salvatore walked slowly toward him, standing over the trembling, bleeding heir to the Moretti empire like an executioner.

"You threatened my hospital," Salvatore said, his voice dropping into a terrifying, lethal whisper. "You threatened her mother. And you touched what is mine."

Marco looked up, trembling with absolute terror. "Please... my father will pay—"

"Your father's empire no longer exists," Salvatore interrupted coldly. "By morning, your family name will be nothing more than a warning in history books."

He gestured to his security team. "Take him away. Lock him in the lowest holding cell beneath the docks. Let him think about what happens when you cross a Constantino."

Within seconds, the room was cleared of the intruders. The silence returned, save for the hum of the medical monitors.

Salvatore turned around, walking slowly toward where I stood shaking beside my mother’s bed. His fierce, predatory aura vanished instantly, replaced by a deep, aching tenderness.

He stopped a few feet away, looking at me with profound concern.

"Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice soft.

I shook my head, tears finally spilling over my lashes. "No. We're safe."

May you like

My mother looked up from her bed, staring between the terrifying mafia boss and her daughter with wide eyes, before letting out a shaky sigh of relief. "Well... whoever you are, young man... thank you for saving my daughter."

Salvatore bowed his head slightly toward her with genuine respect. "It was my honor, Mrs. Evans."
