Chapter 2 - The Digital Siege and the First Domino

Within four hours of the briefing, Forward Operating Site Redstone had transformed into a high-security intelligence fusion center. The mess hall smelled of stale instant coffee and burning electronics as twelve dual-monitor tactical workstations hummed continuously. Tessa Vale sat at the helm of the digital exploitation cell, her fingers flying across her mechanical keyboard like a pianist playing a frantic war march.
The primary target of the first phase was Julian Hawthorne himself—the patriarch, CEO of Hawthorne Global Logistics, and a man whose public persona was built entirely on philanthropic fraud, tax evasion, and political back-scratching.
"Target one is locked," announced Marcus, a former military intelligence analyst specializing in corporate financial networks. He spun his monitor around to show a complex web of offshore accounts routed through the Cayman Islands and Panama. "Julian has been skimming federal logistics subsidies for three years, funneling kickbacks through shell companies registered under his sister's maiden name. Furthermore, his main warehouse facility in the industrial district is operating with flagrant OSHA violations that would give an environmental inspector a heart attack."
Arthur stood behind them, sipping black coffee, his eyes tracking the scrolling lines of financial data. "Draft the dossier. Package it into three distinct digital packets. Send packet one anonymously to the Internal Revenue Service's whistleblower bounty division, complete with verifiable transaction hashes and SWIFT transfer codes. Send packet two to the SEC enforcement division. And send packet three..." Arthur paused, a cold gleam in his eye "...to the chief investigative reporter at the Financial Gazette, accompanied by high-res photos of Julian stepping out of a private jet paid for with corporate embezzlement funds."
"Executing packet drops now," Tessa murmured, pressing the enter key with dramatic flourish. "And... boom. The first domino has fallen."
Across town in the sprawling, gated sanctuary of the Hawthorne estate, Julian Hawthorne was sleeping soundly in a custom-built king-sized bed, dreaming of his upcoming appointment to the state board of economic development. His peaceful slumber was violently interrupted at 06:30 a.m. by a deafening pounding on his front mahogany doors.
Julian stumbled out of bed, pulling on a silk bathrobe while his wife, Marissa, groaned from beneath the Egyptian cotton sheets. "Julian, make them stop! Tell the security guards to throw whoever that is off the property!"
Julian marched down the grand curved staircase, flinging the heavy oak door open with an indignant sneer ready for whoever dared disturb his morning. Instead of reporters or process servers, he was greeted by four federal special agents wearing windbreakers stamped with bold yellow letters: IRS-CI and FBI.
"Julian Hawthorne?" the lead agent asked, holding up a federal arrest warrant and a sweeping search and seizure order.
"This is a mistake!" Julian blustered, puffing out his chest and trying his best intimidation posture. "Do you know who I am? I sit on the governor's advisory board! I demand to speak to my attorneys—"
"Your attorneys are currently being notified at their downtown offices," the agent interrupted flatly, snapping steel handcuffs around Julian's silk-wrapped wrists with practiced efficiency. "You are being placed under arrest for wire fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, and interstate conspiracy. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
As Julian was hauled down his own pristine stone steps in front of the morning neighborhood dog-walkers, his phone buzzed incessantly in his pocket. It was his chief financial officer, screaming in a panic that Hawthorne Global Logistics stock had just plummeted forty-two percent in pre-market trading after an explosive investigative exposé dropped online, detailing years of systemic corporate corruption.

Meanwhile, back at the tactical base, Singh intercepted the live local police scanner feed and laughed out loud. "Commander, target one is in custody. Bail has been set at five million dollars, but guess what? The asset freeze we initiated on their personal accounts has locked up every liquid cent they own. Julian can't even post bail with his own money."
Arthur didn't smile. He merely nodded, looking down at a tactical tablet displaying the names of the remaining ten Hawthorne family members. "Good. That was just the opening salvo. Now let's move on to the enablers. Who's next on the chopping block?"
