Chapter 3 - Dismantling the Dynasty, One Privileged Life at a Time

By day four, the Hawthorne family fortress had turned into a house of absolute horrors. The shockwave of Julian's arrest had shattered the illusion of invulnerability that the family had lived behind for decades. But Arthur Vance’s tactical class wasn't even close to finished. They were operating with surgical precision, treating the remaining ten family members like high-value targets in a counter-insurgency campaign.
Target number two was Chad Hawthorne—Julian’s twenty-four-year-old nephew, the arrogant gym rat who had physically grabbed Lily’s arms during the assault while laughing in her face. Chad fancied himself a high-rolling cryptocurrency influencer and real estate mogul, flaunting rented Lamborghinis on Instagram while living off his uncle's trust fund.
Tessa assigned two trainees, code-named Ghost and Wraith, to dismantle Chad’s digital empire.
"Checking Chad's public corporate filings for his 'Hawthorne Crypto Ventures' LLC," Wraith reported, tapping furiously at his terminal. "Turns out the entire operation is an unregistered securities fraud scheme. He's been taking investments from college students and young professionals while promising guaranteed 500 percent returns, then dumping the cash into high-risk meme coins and luxury personal expenses."
"File a formal complaint with the State Securities Commission and the Federal Trade Commission," Arthur ordered calmly from across the room. "And make sure the Securities Fraud Division receives the complete transaction ledger showing him draining investor wallets to buy custom diamond watches. Also, coordinate with the local police department's cyber-crime unit regarding the digital video evidence of the assault on my daughter found on his cloud storage account. Let's see how cool he looks in an orange jumpsuit."
Within twenty-four hours, federal marshals raided Chad’s downtown penthouse apartment just as he was waking up from a late-night clubbing session. They seized his computers, his designer clothes, his crypto hardware wallets, and his fleet of luxury sports cars. As Chad was frog-marched out of his building in handcuffs, a local news crew—tipped off anonymously by Tessa’s intelligence cell—captured every humiliating second of it, broadcasting his downfall live across local news channels and social media platforms.
Targets three through seven—a collection of aunts, uncles, and cousins who had stood around clapping, filming, and cheering during the assault—met an equally swift, bureaucratic doom.
One by one, their dirty secrets were dragged into the glaring light of day. Cousin Richard, a high-powered pharmaceutical sales executive, was exposed by base trainees for orchestrating an illegal kickback scheme with local doctors, resulting in his immediate termination and an FDA criminal investigation. Aunt Beatrice, who sat on the board of a prestigious local charity and loved publicly looking down her nose at everyone else, was audited by the IRS after evidence surfaced showing she had been embezzling charity funds to pay for her extensive plastic surgery and equine hobby farm.
The Hawthorne family group chat, once a buzzing hub of arrogant superiority, vicious gossip, and shared video clips mocking Lily’s pain, went completely dead silent.
Marissa Hawthorne, the matriarch who had orchestrated her new family's toxic culture of cruelty, sat alone in the echoing, half-empty mansion. Her husband was in federal lockup awaiting trial; her nephew was facing twenty years for financial fraud; her bank accounts were frozen tighter than a Siberian winter; and her friends had suddenly stopped returning her phone calls. The golden cage she had fought so hard to enter had transformed into a maximum-security prison cell built entirely of their own documented misdeeds.
At 02:00 hours on day seven, Marissa's cell phone finally buzzed violently on the marble bedside table. Her hands shook as she picked it up. The caller ID simply read: Arthur Vance.
She swiped the answer button, her voice cracking with pure, unadulterated terror and rage. "I know you did this! You ruined us! Every single one of us! I'll see you in court, you psychotic monster!"
Arthur’s voice came back over the line, smooth, icy, and devoid of any emotion. It was the voice of a commander delivering a final sit-rep.
"Then you should know," Arthur said quietly, "that I kept the receipts."
Marissa went completely, breathtakingly quiet on the other end of the line. The heavy silence stretched for ten long seconds.
"You think you’re untouchable?" she hissed through her tears, her voice trembling with helpless fury.
May you like
"No, Marissa," Arthur replied evenly. "I think evidence is. Have a wonderful rest of your life."
He clicked end, tossed the phone onto the briefing table, and looked at his exhausted, grinning trainees. "Phase two complete. Let's prep for the final cleanup."
