Chapter 5 - The Dawn of a New Empire

Six months later, the private courtyard of the Grant estate was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late spring afternoon.

The air was filled with the scent of blooming lilacs and the distant sound of laughter—a sound that hadn't echoed across these stone walls in over a decade.

Andrew stood on the grand stone patio, a cup of black coffee in hand, watching a scene he once would have dismissed as an impossible dream.

Across the emerald-green lawn, Phillip walked.

It wasn't a fast walk, and it certainly wasn't effortless. He wore lightweight carbon-fiber leg braces, his hands gripping parallel aluminum parallel bars set up on the grass. But with every deliberate, sweat-soaked step, his feet moved forward under his own muscular power.

Beside him walked Eric, holding onto the second set of bars, a fierce, determined grin plastered across his face as he pushed his legs through the motion. A few feet away, Adam stood upright against a rolling standing frame, clapping his hands together with a rhythmic, joyful beat.

Leading the session, walking backwards step-by-step just inches ahead of them, was Angela Bailey. She wasn't wearing her clinical scrubs today; she wore a simple cotton sundress, her laughter blending with the boys' voices as she cheered them on like a proud coach.

At the edge of the patio, two of Andrew’s top capos—hardened, scarred enforcers who routinely handled multi-million-dollar syndicate operations—stood awkwardly holding clipboards filled with physical therapy schedules and nutritional charts, looking utterly bewildered yet secretly beaming with pride.

Andrew took a slow sip of his coffee. His empire of shadows, guns, and illicit power suddenly felt entirely insignificant compared to the simple, breathtaking miracle unfolding on his lawn.

His cell phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was an encrypted call from a rival syndicate boss in New York, demanding an urgent meeting over territorial rights in the Midwest.

Andrew stared at the caller ID for three seconds.

Then, with a calm, deliberate motion, he pressed the power button, turned the phone completely off, and dropped it into his coat pocket.

Andrew Grant had more important work to do. He set his coffee cup down on the stone table, rolled up his sleeves, and walked down the steps toward the lawn to help his sons take their next step forward.
