Chapter 3 - The Medical Cage Beneath the Floorboards

The room beyond the door was a makeshift clinical ward disguised as a high-security holding cell. High-definition security monitors lined the far wall, broadcasting live feeds of every single room in the mansion upstairs, including the guest bedroom where I had supposedly been sleeping. In the center of the room stood an adjustable hospital bed, bolted directly into the reinforced concrete floor.

And strapped to that bed by leather restraints was Emily.

Her hospital gown was soaked in sweat, her skin deathly pale, and her eyes wide with a manic, exhausted terror. Standing over her with a calibrated digital syringe was Victoria Mercer, her pearls gleaming under the harsh fluorescent glare like drops of fresh blood against her dark blouse.

"Stop... please, Mom, just let me eat," Emily sobbed, her voice cracking into a pathetic, ragged whisper. "I’m starving. My stomach hurts so badly."

Victoria’s face was a mask of cold, unyielding cruelty. She didn't look like a loving mother; she looked like an executioner performing a routine administrative task.

"Quiet down, Emily," Victoria hissed, tapping the side of the syringe to clear air bubbles. "You know the rules. Your metabolism has always been completely unmanageable. If we let you eat normal food, your system rejects the stabilization protocols. The board meeting in Zurich is next week, and the family trust requires all primary beneficiaries to maintain a pristine, unimpaired medical profile. You are a liability when you lose control."

"It’s not my metabolism!" Emily cried out, fresh tears streaming down her hollow cheeks. "You’ve been poisoning my food with endocrine blockers for three years! You and Richard want to dilute my voting share in the Mercer Holdings trust so Daniel can take absolute control of the entire estate!"

Victoria didn’t flinch. She simply pressed the needle into the intravenous port in Emily’s bruised, trembling arm, injecting a clear, heavy sedative.

"You were always far too clever for your own good, darling," Victoria murmured coldly, stroking Emily’s hair with patronizing fake affection as the girl’s eyelids began to flutter and droop heavily. "Just sleep. By morning, you’ll forget you ever had an appetite."

Outside the door, my hands clenched into white-knuckled fists inside my tactical gloves. Every piece of the puzzle snapped into terrifying, agonizing focus.

This wasn’t a family quirk. This wasn’t a harmless digestive disorder. It was systematic, calculated medical abuse and financial sabotage. Richard, Victoria, and my own fiancé, Daniel, were systematically drugging and starving Emily to manipulate a multi-million-dollar corporate trust, keeping her locked away like a caged animal beneath the very floors where they sipped expensive wine and smiled for society cameras.

And Daniel was knee-deep in it. He wasn’t just an indifferent brother; he was an active conspirator in his own sister's torture.

I quietly raised my backup phone, framing the camera lens perfectly through the crack in the door. I switched on high-resolution video recording and audio capture, making sure every word, every needle injection, and every monitor feed was safely backing up to my encrypted cloud server in real-time.

They thought they were untouchable. They thought they had hidden their crimes behind iron gates and polite society smiles.

They had just handed me all the evidence I needed to destroy their entire empire.
