Chapter 4 - Enter the Billionaire

The man who walked into the ballroom moved with an effortless, predatory grace that commanded the entire space instantly.

He was in his late thirties, sharply dressed in a midnight-blue charcoal tuxedo that clung to a powerful, athletic frame. His jawline looked like it had been carved from granite, framed by dark, tousled hair and piercing amber eyes that surveyed the lavish room with absolute, chilling detachment.

Victor Vance.

The name alone was enough to strike terror into Wall Street boardrooms across the globe. He was the elusive, ruthless multi-billionaire tech mogul and venture capitalist who owned half of Silicon Corporation, major shipping ports across the Atlantic, and private defense logistics networks that supplied governments. He rarely appeared in public, and when he did, financial markets trembled.

And he was walking straight toward Table 19. Toward me.

My father’s knees buckled so violently that he had to grab the edge of the table to keep from collapsing. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water. "V-Vance... Victor Vance? No... that's impossible. You... you can't be here."

Victor didn't even spare my father a single glance. His eyes were entirely locked onto me, softening instantly as he took in the red wine staining the platinum silk of my gown. The temperature in the grand ballroom seemed to drop twenty degrees.

"Meredith," Victor murmured, his voice rich and deep as he stopped right in front of me. He reached out, his warm, strong hand gently cupping my cheek. "Look what they did to you, tesoro. I told you letting them host this little circus was a mistake."

"It’s fine, Victor," I whispered softly, leaning into his touch. "It was just a dress. Though it did ruin the atmosphere."

Victor slowly turned his head, fixing his terrifying amber gaze upon Robert Sterling. The air in the room grew so dense and heavy that several guests looked ready to faint.

"Robert Sterling," Victor said, his voice deceptively quiet, carrying an icy menace that made my father shudder violently. "You spent the last ten years treating my wife like garbage. You stole her inheritance, you forged her signature on corporate documents, and tonight, your pathetic little family thought it would be amusing to humiliate her in front of three hundred witnesses."

Robert’s face was completely drained of color, tears of sheer panic pooling in his eyes. "Mr. Vance... I... I didn't know! If I had known she was married to you—"

"That's precisely the point, Mr. Sterling," Victor interrupted, his tone razor-sharp. "You only respect power, money, and titles. You judged a book by its cover, and now, the entire library is being repossessed."

Victor snapped his fingers twice.

From the doorway, a team of federal marshals and corporate auditors marched in, carrying thick briefcases and legal binders. One of them stepped forward, holding out a sheaf of stamped documents directly to my father.

"Robert Sterling, you are being served with a federal indictment for grand larceny, securities fraud, tax evasion, and corporate embezzlement," the lead auditor announced loudly. "Furthermore, every asset held by Sterling Development Group—including your bank accounts, your commercial real estate holdings, your vacation homes, and this very hotel—has been acquired through emergency foreclosure by Vance Global Holdings. You are legally bankrupt. Effective immediately."

My mother shrieked, collapsing backward into her chair, her diamond earrings catching the light as she began to sob hysterically. Chloe stared at her diamond ring, her face contorted in utter horror as she realized her fairy-tale wedding was actually a foreclosure auction.
