We rebranded the company under its original, foundational name: Whitmore-Sterling Global, honoring both my father’s legacy and the fierce independence that had seen me through the darkest storm of my life. Under my sole chairwoman leadership, partnering strategically with Marcus Vance’s investment firm, the company’s stock soared by forty-two percent in the first quarter alone.
Julian’s trial was scheduled for the upcoming autumn, facing multiple felony counts of wire fraud, embezzlement, and corporate conspiracy, with virtually zero chance of avoiding a significant federal prison sentence. Gwen had taken a plea deal, turning over all evidence of Julian’s unilateral orchestration of the financial siphoning in exchange for a reduced sentence.
I stood once again on the spacious second-floor balcony of my lake villa—the very same villa where I had once stood wondering how my marriage had collapsed.
The evening air was warm, crisp, and filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and pine. A glass of vintage champagne sat on the glass patio table beside me, catching the golden rays of the setting sun as it dipped below the majestic peaks of the Cascades.
My phone buzzed gently on the table. It wasn't an emergency alert or a frantic text from a cheating husband. It was a simple message from Miriam Shaw, confirming that all remaining divorce proceedings had been finalized by default judgment, granting me total ownership of every asset, property, and holding with zero alimony or payout to Julian.
I picked up the glass, took a slow, appreciative sip, and looked out over the endless, shimmering expanse of the water.
The pain of that Valentine’s Day in the office had long since faded, replaced by something far more enduring: absolute, unshakeable strength.
