Chapter 4 - The Confrontation and the Shocking Confession

The video on the massive central monitor continued to play in excruciating, silent detail.

On screen, Serena paused in the corridor, slipped the portable flash drive into the velvet pocket of her designer coat, and typed out a quick text message on a burner phone. A split-second later, a macro command executed on the terminal interface—the exact automated script that had spliced Naomi’s voice files together to manufacture a fake conspiracy.

Mateo stood frozen behind the console, slowly turning his head to look between the giant screen and his boss. The air in the underground bunker felt thick enough to choke on. No one dared to breathe, let alone speak.

Gabriel didn't shout. He didn't smash a monitor or draw his weapon. Instead, his entire body went completely rigid, every muscle locking into place like a statue carved out of dark, unforgiving marble.

When he finally turned his gaze toward his sister, his eyes were devoid of any human warmth whatsoever. They were the eyes of a merciless syndicate boss staring down a dead man walking.

Serena backed up slowly until her spine pressed hard against the cold concrete wall of the bunker. The sophisticated, untouchable facade she had worn all evening shattered completely, leaving behind a frantic, cornered coward.

"Gabriel..." she whispered, her voice trembling violently. "Gabriel, wait... let me explain. You don't understand what was happening—"

"Quiet," Gabriel said.

The single word cut through the room like a razor-sharp blade. Serena flinched, clamping her mouth shut as hot tears of panic finally spilled over her eyelashes.

"For thirty years," Gabriel began, his voice dangerously low, each syllable dropping like lead weights onto the floor, "I protected you. When our father died, when rivals hunted our bloodline across Europe, I took bullets, I built empires, and I made sure you never had to look the ugly reality of our world in the eye."

"Gabriel, please, I am your sister—" Serena sobbed, sliding slightly down the concrete wall.

"You are a traitor," Gabriel corrected coldly, stepping closer until tower over her shaking frame. "You traded my shipments, leaked routes to Victor Kovalenko, nearly got my men killed, and then deliberately framed my pregnant wife—the only person who brought genuine light into this dark, brutal life—just to cover your own tracks."

"Kovalenko had my gambling debts!" Serena screamed defensively, the mask completely dropping as hysteria took over. "He had financial leverage over my private accounts! If I didn't give him your shipping schedules, his men were going to expose me, ruin my standing, and take everything I owned! I had no choice, Gabriel! I’m family!"

Gabriel let out a bitter, humorless laugh that sounded more like a growl. "Family. That word used to mean something to me, Serena. But the moment you targeted my wife and my unborn child, you ceased to be my blood."

He turned sharply away from her, addressing his security chief without breaking stride.

"Mateo."

"Boss?" Mateo stepped forward instantly, snapping to attention.

"Contact Victor Kovalenko’s primary courier immediately. Tell him the Mercer cartel is ready to negotiate terms for the intercepted shipments." Gabriel’s gray eyes flashed with cold, calculated fury. "And tell him that as a gesture of 'good faith,' we are sending him a very special delivery package straight to his front door."

Mateo swallowed hard, instantly understanding the brutal subtext. "Consider it done, Boss. What about Serena?"

Gabriel didn't even look back at his sister as he strode toward the heavy bunker exit, his mind racing with a singular, agonizing mission.

"Lock her in the reinforced holding vault downstairs until further notice," Gabriel commanded coldly without breaking his stride. "She stays there in the dark until I hunt down every single associate connected to her little betrayal."

As the heavy steel doors of the bunker hissed shut behind him, Gabriel pulled out his encrypted satellite phone. There was only one place Naomi could have gone, and there was only one way he was ever going to earn back her forgiveness.

He had hours—maybe minutes—to fix the greatest mistake of his life before it became permanent.
