Chapter 3 - The Tribeca Sanctuary and the Closing Net

The Tribeca penthouse looked less like an apartment and more like a modern art museum suspended in the sky. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a panoramic view of the Hudson River, shimmering under the late afternoon sun. Minimalist white furniture, polished concrete floors, and walls lined with rare abstract canvases gave the massive space an ethereal, untouchable calm.

Blaire stood in the center of the grand living room, holding a sleeping Fiona, feeling entirely out of place in her travel-creased clothes.

A middle-aged woman with kind eyes and an impeccably tailored gray dress appeared silently from the hallway. "Mr. Sterling. Welcome home. And... you have a guest."

"Mrs. Gable, this is Blaire and her daughter, Fiona," Luca said, shrugging off his navy jacket and tossing it onto a sleek designer chair. "They'll be staying in the master guest wing indefinitely. I want the nursery on the third floor prepared immediately, and have a personal shopper bring up a full wardrobe for both of them by evening."

Mrs. Gable’s eyes widened slightly in surprise—she had worked for Luca for over a decade and had never once seen him bring a woman, let alone a mother and child, into his private sanctuary. But she recovered instantly with a warm, welcoming smile. "Of course, Mr. Sterling. Right this way, Miss Sterling. Let me take that heavy diaper bag for you."

"Thank you," Blaire breathed, following Mrs. Gable down a wide, sunlit corridor into a guest suite larger than her entire apartment back in Chicago.

For the next two hours, Blaire was treated with a level of care and luxury she had only ever seen in magazines. After putting Fiona down for a peaceful nap in a beautifully appointed temporary crib, Blaire took a long, steaming shower in a bathroom made entirely of Italian marble. When she stepped out, a rack of fresh designer clothes—ranging from comfortable loungewear to elegant evening dresses—hung neatly beside the vanity, selected with uncanny accuracy for her size.

Downstairs, Luca was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, a secure tablet glowing in his hand. Marcus stood a few paces away, delivering a real-time status report.

"Vance didn't just run a data query, boss," Marcus said grimly. "He caught a break through an airline employee who moonlighted as a freelance data broker. He knows flight 404 was your charter, and he knows a woman matching Blaire's description was escorted directly to your private transport."

Luca's jaw tightened until the muscle ticked. "So he's coming to New York."

"He booked an evening flight out of O'Hare. Landing at JFK around 9:00 PM," Marcus confirmed. "He's also filed an emergency ex parte motion in a Chicago family court alleging parental kidnapping, claiming Blaire fled the jurisdiction with his child."

Luca let out a cold, humorless laugh. "Parental kidnapping? When he hasn't looked at his daughter twice in six months and was caught cheating with half the corporate office? Vance is more arrogant than I thought."

"What are your orders?" Marcus asked.

"Let him land," Luca said softly, his eyes narrowing as he stared out at the Manhattan skyline. "Let him come right to our front door. Let’s see how brave America's most ambitious corporate compliance officer feels when he realizes he's trying to extort a woman under the protection of Sterling Global."
