Chapter 3 - The Horrifying Truth on the Big Screen

The giant projector screen flickered to life, casting a harsh, glowing light over the elegant white-and-gold ballroom. The room fell into a dead, suffocating silence.
The video footage opened with clear, high-definition clarity. It had been captured by a hidden dashcam and security camera system installed inside Christina’s vehicle and the underground parking garage.
On the screen, Christina appeared, looking pale and distressed, leaning against her car door. Suddenly, the passenger door flew open, and Florence stepped out. But this wasn't the sweet, gentle woman who brought me coffee every morning. This Florence looked like a stranger—her face twisted in a mask of pure venom, screaming profanities at my daughter.
"You think your pathetic old father is going to believe you over me?!" Florence’s voice blasted through the high-end ballroom sound system, crystal clear and horrifyingly real. "I've spent two years sinking my claws into his estate! The moment we sign those marriage certificates, his entire company, his real estate portfolio, and his trust funds legally transfer to me! You and your bratty kid won't get a single penny!"
On the screen, Christina begged her to stop, trying to open the driver's side door. Florence lunged forward with shocking violence, striking Christina across the face with a heavy metal flashlight, sending her crashing hard against the concrete floor.
Gasps, shrieks, and outraged murmurs erupted instantly from the 120 guests. Several women in the front row covered their mouths in horror. Florence's own mother, sitting in the third row, burst into tears and slumped back into her seat.
The video continued. It showed Florence dragging Christina's limp, unconscious body across the concrete and shoving her forcefully into the trunk of the car, slamming the lid shut with a sickening thud. Just before the video cut out, a small pair of toddler sneakers flashed in the corner of the frame—little Leo, hiding behind a concrete pillar, watching his mother get stuffed into a trunk by the woman his grandfather was about to marry.
The projector screen went dark.
The ballroom was heavier than a tomb. You could have heard a pin drop on the thick carpet.
I turned around slowly, walking back toward the center of the altar. Florence was no longer fighting the security guards. She was slumped against a floral pillar, her designer veil crooked, her breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps as she realized her entire meticulously constructed web of lies had completely unraveled.

"Florence," I said softly, my voice echoing across the silent room. "For two years, I thought you brought light into my life. But you brought a nightmare. And right now, my daughter is in the emergency room because of your greed."
Before Florence could stammer out a single word of defense, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open with a loud bang.
