Chapter 4 - Checkmate in Insadong

The private dining room at one of Seoul's most exclusive traditional restaurants was quiet, secluded, and heavy with tension. Dante sat across from Nyla, his food untouched, his eyes locked onto hers with undisguised hostility. The facade of the loving husband had completely dissolved, replaced by the ruthless mafia boss accustomed to eliminating obstacles with a single word.
"You're playing a very dangerous game, Nyla," Dante said, leaning forward across the low wooden table. "You think because you found some offshore accounts, you hold all the cards? You signed those compliance documents. If those ledgers go to the authorities, your signature is right beside mine. You go down as my co-conspirator."
Nyla took a slow sip of her green tea, setting the ceramic cup down with a delicate clink.
"You truly don't understand my world, do you, Dante?" she asked calmly. "When an art restorer finds a fraudulent signature on a masterpiece, she doesn't just point at it. She strips away the modern varnish, exposes the original canvas, and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt who painted the forgery."
She slid a sleek manila folder across the table.
Dante opened it slowly. Inside were not just copies of the offshore accounts, but certified forensic audits, recorded conversations between him and Han Seol-ah detailing the conspiracy to frame Nyla, and—most devastatingly—direct wire-transfer receipts proving that Aegis Art Holdings was entirely owned by Seol-ah, funded exclusively through illegal maritime smuggling, with Dante as the primary beneficiary.
Furthermore, copies of these exact documents had already been automatically dispatched to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, set on a delayed timer triggered by Nyla’s smartphone every six hours.
"If anything happens to me," Nyla said, her voice cutting through the thick air like a scalpel, "the prosecutor receives the master file. If you try to flee, the international red notices go live. If you try to touch a single hair on my head, Han Seol-ah’s high-society art galleries will be raided by dawn."
Dante’s face went completely pale. The invincible boss of the Baek Jin Syndicate realized, with sudden, crushing horror, that he had not married a quiet, submissive trophy. He had married his own executioner.

"What do you want?" Dante choked out, his voice shaking with suppressed fury.
"Everything," Nyla said softly. "Divorce papers, signed and notarized, relinquishing every single share of Baek Jin Maritime Group to my sole control. Full transfer of all legitimate real estate holdings into the Avanoir Foundation. And Han Seol-ah out of the country by midnight."
