Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Coup and the Federal Sweep

By sunrise the next morning, the grand estate in Greenwich felt less like a home and more like a crime scene awaiting final processing. True to my word, Arthur Vale hadn't wasted a single second. While Julian and his mother sat paralyzed in the East Wing, paralyzed by the digital evidence looping on my tablet, Arthur had mobilized federal investigators, forensic accountants, and the Manhattan District Attorney's financial crimes division.
I sat at the head of the polished glass conference room table on the forty-second floor of Altamira Tower in downtown Manhattan. Below us, the morning sun was bathing the New York skyline in golden light, illuminating the city where my grandfather had built an empire through honest labor, integrity, and relentless vision.
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open sharply, and two federal marshals entered, flanked by Arthur Vale. Behind them walked Julian, his expensive designer suit rumpled, his hair disheveled, and his face drained of all arrogance. Beside him trudged Renata and Chloe, both looking as though they had aged ten years overnight.
"Mrs. Vance," Arthur nodded respectfully, pulling out the chair to my right. "All initial warrants have been fully executed. The offshore accounts in Panama have been legally frozen by federal court order, and the corporate audit has already been submitted to the SEC."
Julian collapsed into a chair opposite me, his hands trembling violently as he tried to look me in the eye. "Evelyn... please. Let's not do this publicly. Think of the company stock. Think of our family name. We can settle this quietly in arbitration, just you and me."
I didn't blink. I looked at the man I had trusted for seven years, feeling nothing but profound pity and absolute disgust.
"Your family name died the moment you watched your own daughter get held down and mutilated for corporate leverage, Julian," I said evenly. "You didn't care about family. You cared about control. And now, you have neither."
One of the federal agents stepped forward, placing a set of heavy steel handcuffs directly onto the polished glass table in front of Julian. "Julian Vance, you are under federal indictment for corporate wire fraud, forgery, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit financial extortion. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
Chloe let out a piercing shriek, burying her face in her hands as her own legal representation abandoned her on the spot. Renata began shouting furious threats about her societal status and political connections, but the federal marshals ignored her entirely, snapping the cold steel cuffs around Julian’s wrists with a sharp, metallic click.
As they hauled Julian and Renata toward the elevators, Chloe stumbled forward, desperately looking at me with tear-filled eyes. "Evelyn, please! I'm pregnant! Think of the baby!"
"You should have thought about innocent children before you picked up those clippers," I replied coldly.

Arthur handed me a final document to sign—the official board resolution transferring Julian’s voting shares entirely into a protective trust managed by myself and independent corporate directors. With a steady hand, I picked up my Montblanc pen and signed my name at the bottom, permanently locking the Vance dynasty’s corrupt faction out of Altamira Holdings forever.
The corporate coup was complete, and the empire was finally back in safe hands.
