Chapter 5 - Dawn at the Rossi Estate

The morning sun rose over the sprawling gates of the Rossi estate, washing the manicured gardens and stone courtyards in a golden, peaceful light. The dark cloud of suspicion, poison, and fear had been permanently swept away.

Inside the grand nursery, the room smelled of fresh lavender and warm milk.

I sat comfortably in the rocking chair by the sunny window, wearing a soft, high-quality cashmere sweater Lorenzo had insisted on buying for me, watching as baby Leo slept soundly in his crib—his cheeks rosy, his breathing deep and healthy, having gained back half a pound in just three days of proper, natural feeding.

The door opened softly.

Lorenzo walked in. He wore a simple black button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking less like a feared syndicate boss and more like a man finally finding peace in his own home. He held two steaming cups of coffee, extending one toward me with a faint, genuine smile.

"He slept through the entire night," Lorenzo said quietly, leaning his hip against the edge of the crib, looking down at his son with undisguised adoration.

"Of course he did," I smiled, taking the warm mug from his hand. "He has a full stomach and a safe home now."

Lorenzo turned his intense gray gaze from the baby onto me, his expression turning serious.

"The federal marshals recovered my financial records from Elena’s offshore accounts early this morning," he said softly. "Her network has been completely dismantled. As for your ex-boyfriend... let's just say his debts have been permanently settled, and he won't ever come within five hundred miles of this city again. You are entirely safe, Clara. Here, with us."

My breath hitched. I looked down at the coffee mug, my heart fluttering against my ribs. "Mr. Rossi—Lorenzo—I'm just a maid. I can't stay here pretending to be—"

"You're not a maid, Clara," Lorenzo interrupted gently, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear. His fingers brushed softly against my cheek, sending a warm shiver straight down my spine. "You saved my son's life. You brought light back into this dark house when I was losing my mind. And when I look at you... I don't see an employee."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegant velvet box.

My breath caught.

Lorenzo opened it, revealing not a ring, but a delicate, silver pendant shaped like a tiny, blooming lotus flower—symbolizing resilience, survival, and new life.

"Stay," Lorenzo whispered, his voice deep and steady. "Help me raise my son. Let us heal each other. You don't ever have to run again."

Tears welled up in my eyes, but this time, they weren't tears of grief or terror. They were tears of profound, overwhelming hope.

I reached out, taking the pendant from the box, and looked up into the eyes of the most feared mafia boss in the city—a man who had pointed a gun at my head, only to give me his entire heart.

"Yes," I whispered, a brilliant smile breaking across my face as Leo let out a soft, happy coo from his crib. "I'll stay."

And as Lorenzo leaned down and pressed a gentle, tender kiss to my forehead, I knew that the darkest chapters of our lives were finally over, and the brightest one was just beginning.
