Chapter 3 - Dismantling the Dynasty

The silence in the ballroom was so absolute you could hear the hum of the air conditioning vents.
Julian pulled a sleek black leather portfolio from his inner jacket pocket, sliding it across the polished head table right in front of my trembling father. Aidan didn't touch it. He stared at the gold-embossed seal of Vance & Sterling Holdings—our family’s own investment firm—stamped across the cover.
"What is this?" Aidan whispered, his bravado entirely evaporated.
"That," Julian said smoothly, stepping closer so that only the front rows could hear every syllable, "is the complete accounting audit of every fraudulent tax shelter, ghost employee, and offshore shell corporation you’ve been running through Vance & Sterling for the past seven years. My legal team finished compiling it at noon today. All it took was one phone call from my wife telling me you poured wine on her custom gown for me to authorize my general counsel to file it directly with the Department of Justice."
My mother shrieked, clutching her pearls. "You... you can't do that! We're family! Fiona's wedding reception is happening right now!"
"Family?" I stepped out from beneath Julian’s heavy coat, my chin held high, my eyes blazing with years of suppressed humiliation. "Was I family when you shoved me into the dark corner by the kitchen? Was I family when you laughed while my father branded me a pathetic spinster in front of three hundred strangers? You made it very clear today whose daughter I am—and whose family I am leaving behind."
Fiona burst into hysterical tears, her pristine white bridal veil shaking violently. "Dad! Make them stop! They're ruining my wedding! Make Mabel fix this!"
Aidan stumbled backward, knocking his chair over with a loud clatter. He looked from Julian’s cold, unyielding gaze to the four black-suited guards standing at attention by the doors. He realized, with sudden, crushing horror, that the quiet, submissive daughter he had bullied for thirty-two years was married to a man who could erase his entire social standing, bankrupt his company, and throw him in federal prison before the dessert course was served.
"Mabel..." Aidan’s voice cracked, turning into a pathetic, whimpering plea. "Mabel, please. We're your flesh and blood. Surely we can talk about this like adults... let's not be hasty..."

Julian checked his luxury Swiss watch, the gold hands catching the light.
"You have exactly three minutes, Aidan," Julian interrupted coldly, "to grab the microphone, publicly apologize to my wife on bended knee for your disgusting behavior, and announce to your esteemed guests that you are a fraud and a bully. Otherwise, my men escort you out in handcuffs, and the federal marshals serve your indictment before midnight."
