Chapter 5 - A New Dynasty

The morning sun streamed brilliantly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of Halcyon Global’s penthouse boardroom, casting warm, golden light across the polished oak conference table. I sat at the head of the table in a tailored charcoal-grey executive suit, the silver crescent-moon pendant resting proudly against my collarbone.
To my right sat Gabriel, smiling with a profound, restored peace that had eluded him for two decades. To my left sat a team of senior federal prosecutors and corporate restructuring attorneys.
The fallout from Adrian’s arrest had moved with terrifying speed. Halcyon Global’s internal audit had confirmed every single discrepancy I uncovered. Adrian’s assets had been frozen, his bank accounts seized, and his fraudulent corporate credentials permanently revoked. Facing thirty years in federal prison for grand larceny, wire fraud, and corporate embezzlement, Adrian’s defense counsel was already desperately negotiating a guilty plea in exchange for a marginal reduction in sentence—though neither Gabriel nor I had any intention of showing mercy.
Celeste sat in a county holding cell, her social standing evaporated overnight as former high-society friends rushed to distance themselves from the disgraced family. The mansion where I had spent four years scrubbing floors and wearing a maid's apron was currently under municipal asset seizure, destined to be auctioned off to repay the funds they had stolen.
My phone chimed softly on the mahogany desk. It was a message from my attorney confirming that the expedited divorce proceedings had been finalized by default, granting me sole ownership of all hidden assets Adrian had tried to stash away in domestic accounts.
Gabriel placed a warm, reassuring hand over mine. "How does it feel, Mara? To finally be home?"
I looked out past the towering glass windows, watching the bustling metropolis of the city stretch out endlessly beneath us—a city I now helped govern, protect, and lead. The scars of the past four years remained, but they no longer felt like brands of shame. They were armor.

"It feels," I said, a slow, confident smile spreading across my face, "like I am finally wearing the crown I was always meant to inherit."
I closed the final ledger of the audit, locked my screen, and stepped forward into a future where no one would ever dare hand me a servant's apron again.
