Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Sterling Empire

The heavy, authoritative thud of dress shoes on pristine ice cut through the stadium chaos like a thunderclap.
From the VIP tunnel emerged Victor Sterling.
The name alone was enough to make Wall Street tremble. A ruthless billionaire, a titan of industrial real estate, and the primary financial benefactor of the International Olympic Committee, Victor was a man who owned entire city blocks and dictated the careers of global athletic directors with a single phone call. More importantly, he was Chloe’s grandfather—and the patriarch who controlled every single cent of the trust fund that funded her lavish, entitled lifestyle.
Chloe spun around, her triumphant sneer instantly freezing on her face. The vibrant color drained from her cheeks, leaving her looking like a corpse under the blinding stadium spotlights.
"Grandpa..." she stammered, taking an instinctive step backward on her razor-sharp blades. "What... what are you doing down here?"
Victor didn't even glance at her. His piercing, steel-gray eyes locked onto me, softening with a profound, almost reverent depth. He walked past his trembling granddaughter, bent down, and retrieved the microphone Chloe had dropped onto the ice.
"The documents my granddaughter just illegally projected on that screen are entirely accurate," Victor's deep, gravelly voice boomed through the high-end acoustics of the Starlight Arena, silencing eighteen thousand spectators instantly. "Harper Vance did indeed test positive for those chemical compounds six months ago."
Chloe let out a breathy, hysterical laugh, clutching at a straw of hope. "You see? Even my grandfather knows the truth! She’s dirty!"
"Silence!" Victor roared, slamming his silver-tipped cane onto the ice with a force that sent a sharp crack echoing through the arena. Chloe flinched violently, shrinking back as her grandfather's fury washed over her.
"Those compounds, ladies and gentlemen, are not performance-enhancing drugs," Victor continued, his voice dripping with icy contempt. "They are high-grade surgical anesthetics, synthetic blood coagulants, and nerve regenerators."
A collective murmur rippled through the VIP boxes. Reporters leaned forward, pencils and recorders poised, sensing the tectonic shift in the scandal.

Victor turned his gaze back to Chloe, his eyes narrowing into slits of pure venom. "Six months ago, Harper Vance suffered a near-fatal injury. An injury she sustained when she threw herself directly in front of a speeding, out-of-control vehicle to push an elderly man out of a crosswalk." Victor paused, letting the crushing weight of his words settle over the dead-silent stadium. "She saved my life. And in doing so, the front bumper of that car nearly tore her leg completely off."
Gasps erupted from the crowd like a wave crashing against a seawall. Thousands of pairs of eyes dropped from Chloe's horrified face down to the jagged, pale scar slashed across my thigh. In a single heartbeat, the symbol of my supposed disgrace transformed into a badge of absolute, undeniable heroism.
