Chapter 5 - The Master of Blackstone Estate

Two weeks later, the Blackstone estate was a very different place.
The internal corruption had been thoroughly purged. The federal indictments against Julian Vance and his co-conspirators made national headlines, but inside the high iron gates of the harbor estate, peace had finally settled like a warm blanket.
Rosalind’s veterinary license had been fully reinstated, thanks to an anonymous, highly influential legal team that made sure the corrupt state board reversed their decision overnight. Furthermore, the debt collectors harassing her brother Marcus had permanently vanished, replaced by a fully funded scholarship trust covering Marcus’s entire education through university.
In the sunlit courtyard, Titan trotted freely without a muzzle or a leash, his glossy coat gleaming in the autumn sun.
Rosalind stood by the fountain, packing a small canvas duffel bag. Her maid’s uniform was gone, replaced by a soft cashmere sweater and jeans. She had decided it was time to move back into her own life—now that she had the means, the license, and the freedom to start her own veterinary clinic.
As she zipped her bag, heavy footsteps approached from behind.
Dante Castellano stood there, wearing a simple black shirt, his dark eyes softening as he looked down at her.
"You're leaving," Dante stated, though there was no command in his voice this time—only a quiet, profound question.
"I have a clinic to open, Mr. Castellano," Rosalind said softly, turning to face him. "And Marcus needs me at home."
Dante stepped closer, stopping just inches away. The tension between them was no longer built on fear or danger, but on a deep, undeniable pull that neither of them could ignore.
"The gatehouse is yours whenever you want it, Rosalind," Dante said, his voice dropping low and intimate. "And as for the dog... he won't eat unless you visit at least twice a week."
Rosalind smiled, a bright, genuine smile that reached her eyes for the first time in years. "I think Titan loves the harbor breeze too much to stay away completely."
Dante reached out, taking her hand in his warm, calloused palm. He lifted her knuckles to his lips, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss against her skin.
"You came into my house to survive, Rosalind," Dante murmured, his dark eyes locking onto hers with fierce, unyielding devotion. "Instead, you exposed the rats, saved my best friend, and conquered my entire world. Remember what I told you the first night we met?"
Rosalind’s breath caught as Dante smiled, a rare, breathtaking sight that chased away every shadow in the courtyard.

"You’re mine, Rosalind Whittaker," Dante whispered against her ear. "And for once in my life... I intend to keep what I claim."
Rosalind didn't pull her hand away. She squeezed his fingers tightly, stepped into his embrace, and finally let herself fall.
