Chapter 5 - A New Dawn at Ashford House

Three months later, the Ashford estate looked entirely different. The dark, stifling atmosphere that Celeste had brought into our home had been thoroughly scrubbed away, replaced by genuine warmth, transparency, and trust.
I sat at the massive mahogany desk in the executive penthouse office downtown, reviewing the final quarterly financial reports. The transition into my role as Co-CEO had been seamless. With my forensic accounting background, I had not only repaired the damage Celeste attempted to inflict, but I had also uncovered and liquidated several lingering vulnerabilities in our corporate structure, making the firm stronger and more profitable than ever.
Down at the estate, my father had retired from his daily micro-management, choosing instead to spend his weekends gardening and reconnecting with old friends he had neglected during his isolation. He had even personally apologized to every single staff member Celeste had wrongfully dismissed, welcoming them back with increased salaries and deep personal gratitude.
My phone chimed on the desk. A text message from Maria flashed across the screen: Miss Evelyn, dinner is ready at the main house tonight. Your father is grilling your favorite steaks, and he promised no business talk.
I smiled, locking my screen and sliding my phone into my briefcase.
