Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

Twelve hours later, Arthur Vance stepped off his first-class flight at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. He adjusted the lapel of his tailored Italian wool suit, his face wearing the smug, self-satisfied grin of a man who believed he had successfully discarded a burdensome wife and secured his entire fortune without a fight.
He strode purposefully through the arrivals terminal, pulling his smartphone from his coat pocket to check his messages, expecting a flurry of panicked emails or missed calls from local contacts in Bangkok.
Instead, his phone screen flashed a persistent, glaring error:
AUTHENTICATION FAILED. ACCOUNT FROZEN DUE TO PENDING FEDERAL INJUNCTION.
Arthur frowned, tapping the screen again. Nothing. He tried to open his corporate banking app. Access denied. Security lock engaged.
"What kind of glitch is this?" he muttered under his breath, his stride slowing as a knot of unease began to form in his stomach.
Before he could pull out his backup card, heavy footsteps echoed around him. Two men in dark suits and federal enforcement windbreakers stepped directly into his path, blocking his exit toward the baggage claim.
"Mr. Arthur Vance?" the taller agent asked, his voice entirely devoid of warmth.
"Yes? Who are you?" Arthur snapped, trying to push past them. "I’m a prominent business executive, I don't have time for—"
"You’re being served with an emergency federal subpoena and a multi-count civil injunction filed on behalf of Mrs. Chloe Vance," the agent interrupted crisply, slapping a thick manila folder directly against Arthur’s chest. "You are commanded to appear before the federal district court at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning regarding allegations of corporate fraud, asset concealment, and malicious abandonment."
Arthur stared at the paperwork, the color draining entirely from his face until he looked like a ghost. "No... that’s impossible. She has no money! She has no family! She’s stranded in Thailand!"
"She was never stranded, Mr. Vance," a cool, familiar voice echoed from behind the agents.
Arthur whipped his head around. Stepping out from the shadow of the terminal pillar was Marcus Vance—my former mentor and lead legal strategist—flanked by two senior partners from Titan Global Security.
Marcus looked at Arthur with absolute, chilling contempt.
"You should have checked your wife's credentials before you tried to play God, Arthur," Marcus said smoothly, pulling a certified corporate restructuring document from his briefcase. "As of four hours ago, every single asset belonging to Vance Enterprises has been placed into receivership under a private trust controlled entirely by Chloe. Your corporate headquarters? Repossessed. Your personal bank accounts? Frozen. Your primary estate? Under federal review."

Arthur shook his head frantically, clutching the manila folder like a drowning man grasping at a straw. "This is illegal! I'm the founder! I built this company!"
"You inherited a mid-tier firm and nearly drove it into bankruptcy before Chloe cleaned up your financial disasters," Marcus corrected sharply. "And now, you’re about to lose everything."
