Chapter 5 - The Queen Returns

Back in Bangkok, I stood on the private balcony of the luxury penthouse suite, watching the golden morning sun rise over the majestic spires of the Grand Palace. The tropical breeze was warm, fragrant, and wonderfully free.

My burner phone buzzed softly on the glass table beside my coffee cup.

I picked it up and tapped the screen. It was an encrypted video call request from Marcus, routed directly from the federal courthouse in Seattle.

I swiped to accept.

The screen illuminated to reveal the sprawling, high-ceilinged interior of the federal courtroom. Sitting at the defense table, looking utterly broken, defeated, and stripped of every ounce of his arrogance, was Arthur. Standing beside him was his mother, Evelyn, who had clearly been summoned to the proceedings and now looked like she was about to suffer a medical emergency as she realized the full scope of what her malice had unleashed.

Marcus’s face appeared in the corner of the screen, smiling broadly. "Can you hear us clearly, Chloe?"

"Loud and clear, Marcus," I replied, my voice calm, steady, and resonant.

The presiding judge, a distinguished older woman with iron-gray hair and an unyielding gaze, looked directly down from her high bench toward the camera feed displaying my face on the courtroom’s massive digital presentation screen.

"Mrs. Chloe Vance," the judge said formally. "The court has reviewed all emergency filings, satellite telemetry logs, and financial forensic audits submitted by Titan Global. All emergency asset freezes are officially upheld. Furthermore, your petition for full ownership transfer of Vance Enterprises and immediate, uncontested dissolution of marriage with complete financial restitution has been granted."

Arthur looked up toward the screen, his eyes wide with desperate panic, his lips moving soundlessly as he realized he had been reduced to a penniless nobody in less than twenty-four hours.

"Thank you, Your Honor," I said clearly into the microphone.

"Do you have any final statement before the court issues its final decree, Mrs. Vance?" the judge asked.

I looked down from the balcony in Bangkok, watching the peaceful waters of the Chao Phraya River flow endlessly toward the sea. I thought about the fear I had felt when I woke up in the empty hotel room, and how quickly that fear had transformed into absolute, unyielding power.

"Just one, Your Honor," I replied softly. "My husband always told me to figure it out myself. I finally did."

I tapped the screen, ending the call. The phone screen went dark, reflecting my own calm, confident smile. I turned away from the balcony, stepped back into the luxurious suite, and prepared to board my private flight home—not as a victim left behind, but as a queen reclaiming her kingdom.
