Chapter 20 - The Trap SpringsI didn't blink, and I didn't back down. Instead, a slow, calculated smile touched my lips—the exact same smile I had given Marcus at the Grand Harrington Hotel when the trap was fully set.

"You made one fatal miscalculation, Jonathan," I said softly, reaching over to tap the recording device resting discreetly on the corner of the table.

Thorne’s eyes flicked down to the device, and for the first time, a flicker of genuine panic crossed his aristocratic features.

"What is this?" he demanded, starting to stand up.

"This is an audio and video recording of a sitting corporate executive attempting to obstruct a federal compliance investigation and issuing veiled threats of political retaliation," I announced clearly, as the boardroom doors swung open behind him.

Julian stepped into the room, flanked by two federal agents in dark suits bearing the insignia of the U.S. Department of Justice’s financial crimes division. Behind them stood Sarah holding a certified digital flash drive containing the complete, unredacted data transfer packet.

"Jonathan Thorne, you are under arrest for securities fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and systemic corporate racketeering," the lead federal agent stated calmly, stepping forward and placing cold steel handcuffs around Thorne's wrists with a sharp clack.

Thorne thrashed against the agents, his face turning an ugly shade of crimson as his polished veneer completely shattered. "You can't do this! Do you know who I am? I'll ruin you! I'll—"

"You're done, Jonathan," Julian said coldly, standing beside me as we watched the elite financier get hauled out of our boardroom in disgrace. "Compliance doesn't care who you know. We only care about the math. And your math finally hit zero."

As the heavy oak doors closed behind the federal agents, the tension in the room dissolved into absolute triumph. Thorne’s empire was built on silence and fear, and we had just blown the roof off his entire operation.
