Chapter 1 - The Driveway Spectacle

The morning air of our quiet suburban neighborhood was usually peaceful, filled only with the faint chirping of sparrows and the distant hum of morning traffic. But yesterday morning, that illusion of domestic tranquility shattered the second I stepped onto our front porch.

I held a warm ceramic mug of coffee in my right hand, ready to begin the routine commute to my office. Instead, my feet glued themselves to the wooden floorboards, my eyes refusing to believe the visual absurdity unfolding directly in front of our front steps.

My husband Eric’s luxury sedan—parked neatly in our driveway exactly where he had left it the night before after claiming he was stuck late at the downtown architectural firm—was completely, meticulously covered in women’s lingerie.

Dozens of items, ranging from expensive silk bras to brightly colored lace thongs, were draped over the side mirrors, dangling from the door handles, and spread across the entire hood like some kind of deranged, high-end art installation.

I stood there, my coffee mug frozen halfway to my mouth, my brain desperately trying to process what I was looking at. Was it a prank? A bachelor party joke gone wrong? But Eric wasn’t getting married; we had been married for eight years.

Across the street, Mrs. Gable, our notoriously nosy neighbor, was already standing by her manicured hedge, pretending to clip roses while staring unblinkingly at our driveway. Two houses down, Mr. Henderson paused his morning jog, his jaw literally dropping as he took in the spectacle.

Before I could recover my breath, the front door behind me swung open violently. Eric stepped out, wearing his silk bathrobe and a pair of slippers, holding his own travel mug.

When his eyes landed on his car, all the color instantly drained from his face. He staggered backward, his mug slipping from his fingers and shattering against the concrete porch, splashing dark coffee across the steps.

"D-Danielle," Eric stammered, his voice pitching sharply upward in sheer panic. "I swear to God... I have no idea how that got there! This is a setup! Someone is trying to sabotage me!"

I turned my head slowly, looking at him with a cold, unblinking stare. "A setup, Eric? Did someone sneak into our secure suburban driveway at three in the morning just to hang designer lace from your windshield wipers?"

"I don't know! You know how cutthroat competition is at the firm!" he babbled frantically, taking a step toward me with his hands raised in defensive supplication. "It’s a prank from the engineering department! It has to be!"

At that exact, cinematic second, my phone buzzed sharply inside the pocket of my plush robe.

I pulled it out. The screen lit up with a text message from an unknown, unlisted number. There was no greeting, no explanation—just a video file and three chilling words:

May you like

“You should see this.”

My hands began to tremble violently. I stood under the bright morning sun, looking back and forth between my frantic, pale husband and the glowing screen of my phone, acutely aware that my entire life was about to implode.
