Chapter 4 - The Audit of Vengeance and the Net Closing In

For the next three weeks, my life transformed into a whirlwind of high-stakes corporate espionage and psychological warfare.
The guest suite assigned to me in Dominic’s penthouse was larger than my entire former apartment, outfitted with state-of-the-art encrypted workstations, secure satellite links, and every financial database known to the corporate underworld. Dominic provided everything I asked for without hesitation: forensic accounting software, unredacted corporate registries, and a dedicated team of tech specialists who treated my commands as law.
Working alongside Dominic was an education in absolute power. Far from the terrifying, ruthless monster the underworld whispered about, behind closed doors he was meticulous, intensely focused, and surprisingly protective. He made sure I ate, forced me to sleep when exhaustion threatened to break me, and stood behind my chair for hours, watching with cold satisfaction as we traced every single illegal transaction back to Caleb and the Rossi syndicate.
We discovered that Caleb hadn't just been skimming money; he had used my personal signature—forged on fraudulent corporate loan documents—to secure a massive line of credit that was currently funding the Rossi family's primary drug-importation front. If the authorities caught wind of it before we exposed the syndicate, I would be facing decades in federal prison for financial conspiracy.
Caleb and Khloe had planned to frame me all along.
The realization didn't break me this time; it poured gasoline on the fire burning in my chest.
By the twenty-second day, the financial trap was completely shut. Every shell company was mapped, every offshore account was frozen through Dominic's private channels, and an ironclad evidence packet was ready for both federal prosecutors and the internal compliance board of Caleb's company.
It was time for the final move.
"They're hosting an exclusive corporate gala tonight at the Grand Meridian Hotel," Dominic said, walking into my workspace while I adjusted the cuffs of a stunning emerald-green silk dress he had had custom-delivered for me that morning. He wore a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo that made him look every bit the lethal aristocrat he was. "Caleb is being promoted to Vice President of Regional Operations. It's a celebration of a career built on stolen money and forged signatures."

I turned around, catching my reflection in the floor-to-ceiling mirror. The woman looking back at me was unrecognizable. The tear-stained, broken girl who had stumbled into Dominic's VIP room three weeks ago was gone. In her place stood a poised, dangerous, and impossibly elegant woman whose eyes held the cold, calculating brilliance of a diamond.
"Let's go ruin a party," I said softly.
