Chapter 5 - The Grand Finale and the Empire We Built

The ballroom of the Grand Meridian Hotel was a glittering sea of crystal chandeliers, champagne flutes, and expensive tuxedos. When Dominic and I walked through the double doors, arm in arm, the entire room seemed to hold its breath.
The presence Dominic commanded was gravitational. Whispers rippled through the crowd instantly—investors, politicians, and high-society elites parting like the Red Sea to let the most feared man in the city pass, accompanied by a stunning, mysterious woman no one had ever seen before.
Across the room, standing near the stage with a glass of champagne in one hand and his arm wrapped possessively around Khloe’s waist, stood Caleb. He looked arrogant, glowing with the false warmth of unearned success.
Then, his eyes locked onto mine.
Caleb’s glass slipped from his fingers, shattering loudly against the marble floor, the champagne splashing across his polished shoes. Color drained completely from his face as he stared at me—not as the meek, broken accountant he thought he had discarded, but walking side-by-side with Dominic.
"Security!" Caleb shrieked, his voice cracking with sudden panic as he pointed a trembling finger at us. "How did she get in here? Someone throw her out! She’s a criminal!"
Before hotel security could take a single step forward, the massive LED screens behind the stage suddenly flickered. The celebratory corporate presentation vanished, replaced instantly by high-resolution financial audits, bank statements, forged signatures, and audio recordings of Caleb bragging about framing me for corporate embezzlement.
A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. Flashbulbs began popping wildly as reporters—tipped off hours earlier by Dominic’s public relations team—surrounded the stage.
Caleb turned pale as a corpse, looking wildly around the room as federal marshals in dark suits stepped out from the side exits, badges gleaming under the chandeliers.
"Mr. Caleb Vance," the lead federal agent announced loudly, his voice carrying across the silent hall. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, identity theft, and conspiracy."
As the cuffs were slapped onto Caleb’s wrists, he caught my eye across the room. His mouth moved soundlessly, begging for mercy, pleading for help. I didn't even blink. I simply raised my champagne flute in a silent, mocking toast.
Khloe burst into hysterical tears, fleeing the ballroom while paparazzi swarmed her with blinding camera flashes.
I turned my gaze away from the wreckage and looked up at Dominic. He was watching me with an expression that defied all his lethal reputation—an expression of profound, undeniable warmth and absolute devotion.
"Satisfied?" Dominic asked softly, the ambient noise of the ballroom fading into the background.
I smiled, feeling the last heavy anchor of my past finally snap away, leaving me lighter than air.
"I think," I whispered, sliding my hand smoothly into his arm, "this calls for a celebration in a very quiet, very private room."

Dominic’s dark eyes flashed with a dangerous, hungry promise. He pulled me close against his side, turning us away from the ruined lives behind us and toward a future written entirely in our own terms.
We had both entered the wrong rooms that night. But as the heavy doors closed behind us, I knew with absolute certainty that I had finally found my way home.
